"A wonderful introduction to the appellation!"

"This vintage has fabulous cherry fruit, with some blueberries and garrigue mixed in. It is full-bodied, rich, velvety, and balanced. It is neither too powerful nor too tannic; it is simply delicious." (Wine Advocate 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This family-run estate, now in its third generation, produces a wide range of structured wines on some 70 hectares, in a modern and ambitious style that places them among the must-haves of Ventoux. Now managed by Frédéric and Alexandre Chaudière, the vineyard has nine grape varieties grown on clay-limestone slopes at an altitude of 300 meters. The wines are vinified with great care.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

The history of this estate began in the 1970s, when the Chaudière grandparents restored the château and part of the vineyard. Paul and Edith then gave it new impetus by leaving the cooperative and focusing on terroir selection. Since 2000, their sons Frédéric and Alexandre have been overseeing the destiny of this vast vineyard. We are impressed by the stylistic shift in the wines: they have really gained in finesse and flavor, and are a worthy representation of the freshness of the terroir.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

About wine:

A well-structured, concentrated, and lively red Ventoux with notes of black cherry, redcurrant, wild herbs, and baking spices. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Textured and concentrated with a transparent character. Lively and well-composed. Made from organically grown grapes. Vegan. Enjoy now or cellar.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 91+/100

About wine:

The classic Ventoux Terrasses 2022 is a standard blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, aged in concrete and stainless steel vats. Its deep ruby color reveals a ripe, spicy, peppery, medium-bodied wine that exudes Provençal charm, with ripe tannins, beautifully integrated acidity, and exceptional length. With time, it takes on notes of spring flowers and violets, and is another very good wine from this team that far exceeds its promise.

Ruby color. On the nose, freshly crushed red berries, earthiness, green herbs, terroir. Immediately gripping on the palate thanks to the red berries, fine acidity, and good tannin structure. Also sufficiently full-bodied, but above all beautifully balanced and still deliciously young and a little boisterous. A Ventoux with character and recognizable. I'm starting to understand Ventoux more and more! Score: 15.5/20

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 11/11/2024

The restrained aging and warm 2022 vintage reinforce the smooth and generous character of this cuvée, which is bursting with red and black fruit infused with delicate spices, notes of garrigue and smoke, framed by slightly tight and fine tannins. The supple and fleshy palate has a creamy texture that glides over a fluid and fresh structure towards a long and slender finish. Excellent value for money. A young, convivial and highly effective cuvée to be enjoyed without delay with friends, accompanied by barbecued red meat or a delicious dish of beef cannelloni au gratin with Parmesan. Rating = 4.
