"The 2011 Maury Op. Nord remarkably reveals the value of this small north-facing parcel, with much more complexity and finesse in this vintage than in the corresponding regular cuvée. There are rich notes of cherry, blackberry, smoky black tea, zesty brown spices, cocoa powder and a floral perfume that adds to its allure. This long-finished beauty will deserve attention until at least 2018." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2015 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)
Domaine rated (2015 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
Classic type of vdn on schist, with dark chocolate, not too rich in sugar (85g), which contributes to its balance on the palate.
About the domain :
Stéphane Gallet, husband of Marjorie, of Roc des Anges, after leaving Mas Amiel, with the harsh experience of a vineyard then new to him, set up on his own, and immediately produced some of the most original and accomplished Maurys of our time, born of impeccable viticulture and winemaking that leaves nothing to chance.

Rated (2015 guide) 17.5/20 (Grand vin)
Domaine rated (2015 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the wine:
Cuvée Op. Nord is gradually developing a patina in 2011.
About the domain :
In 2008, Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet of Domaine Le Roc des Anges embarked on the adventure of making vins doux naturels: with rare inspiration and the utmost concern for quality, they craft grandiose expressions of schist in their three cuvées of maury. These wines, two reds and one white, transcend the limits inherent in mutage, preserving a mineral brilliance and smokiness, a term that is so obvious here. They shed a new light on a genre that is still too formatted or conventional, and immediately rank among Maury's very best cuvées. This year's second star is richly deserved.
