"A cuvée whose name announces its color and character. Intense, deep, almost black in color, with a powerful, enveloping nose of ripe black fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry, black cherry) blending with vanilla and cocoa notes inherited from eighteen months of ageing in wood. On the palate? Density, structure, firm tannins, volume and a hint of sweetness. The jurors were full of praise for this powerful, persistent wine. Some even whispered in their neighbor's ear: "It's a bomb..." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2016)

Château Moulin Caresse
Montravel
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domain rated 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
Sylvie and Jean-François Deffarge have been working hard since 1981 to raise the Montravel flag on this estate inherited from Jean-François' father. Today, it covers 52 hectares on the slopes and plateau of Vélines. The vineyard has not yet gone organic, but is striving to do the best it can. The next generation is already in the starting blocks: Quentin and Benjamin are now involved in the life of the estate and are taking it in hand. Their extensive, well-structured range enables them to offer wines for every occasion. The new winery will enable them to push their vision even further, with the addition of some experimental cuvées.

About the domain :
A very old family estate (1749) located on the heights of Montravel, this vast domaine is today one of the benchmarks in the Bergerac region, thanks to the work carried out since 1990 (when it left the cooperative) by Jean-François Deffarge, a "self-taught oenologist", who is now handing over to his children Benjamin and Quentin. The vineyard (50 ha) extends over 2 very distinct terroirs: clay-limestone slopes and a boulbène plateau. In organic conversion.

Beautiful fruitiness supported by a smooth, compact palate. A fine wine for a little-known AOP.

Boise a bit vulgar (vanilla, clove: American oak?). Too bad Tasted again in September 2017: more mellow boise, vanilla and cloves less present: better. Wine tasting is not an exact science!

This vintage from an appellation I knew nothing about before buying it from 1jour1vin is an extraordinary discovery! A little bomb bordering on perfection...at this price! Nothing to do with the well-made, well-aged Bordeaux crus classés, but here we have the result of meticulous work on a terroir that is a fortiori exceptional, or else the winemaker is an alchemist. It smells of small black fruits with a few zests of aromatic herbs. The palate is dense and soft at the same time, creamy and persistent on velvety tannins... Bravo ! I'll be sure to meet this winemaker on the spot!
