"A must-see

"Beautiful dark color with purplish highlights. Engaging nose, finely toasted, spicy, blackcurrant, plum, woody background. Supple attack, structured palate, dense, full-bodied, shy, vegetal presence still dissociated, a fine construction to be left to refine quietly." (Le Guide des Vins 2017 - Gilbert & Gaillard) The power of the Southwest!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated (2018 guide) 14.5/20 (Good wine)

Domain rated 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

A powerful, extracted, gourmand and ripe Montravel, to be kept for a few years, a fine bottle in perspective.

About the domain :

Sylvie and Jean-François Deffarge have been working hard since 1981 to raise the Montravel flag on this estate inherited from Jean-François' father. Today, it covers 52 hectares on the slopes and plateau of Vélines. The vineyard has not yet gone organic, but is striving to do the best it can. The next generation is already in the starting blocks: Quentin and Benjamin are now involved in the life of the estate and are taking it in hand. Their extensive, well-structured range enables them to offer wines for every occasion. The new winery will enable them to push their vision even further, with the addition of some experimental cuvées.

Guide Hachette des vins

Domain rated (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

A very old family estate (1749) located on the heights of Montravel, this vast domaine is today one of the benchmarks in the Bergerac region, thanks to the work carried out since 1990 (when it left the cooperative) by Jean-François Deffarge, a "self-taught oenologist", who is now handing over to his children Benjamin and Quentin. The vineyard (50 ha) extends over 2 very distinct terroirs: clay-limestone slopes and a boulbène plateau. In organic conversion.

Ripe black fruit on the nose, with good length on the palate thanks to ageing.

Having enjoyed the 2010 vintage. The new formulation is very disappointing. The wine has too strong an attack that has nothing to do with its origin.
