"Luckily for the estate, the Merlot (50%), Cabernet Franc (30%) and Malbec grapes making up this cuvée, aged 18 months in barrels, were largely unaffected by the frost. Fans of this renowned cuvée will therefore find a successor to the 2016, a superb favorite from the previous edition. While it lacks the substance and potential of its predecessor, it is appreciated for its finesse and aromatic expression, between morello cherry and well-integrated roasted wood. Fresh and fragrant on the palate, it reveals mellow, vanilla-flavored tannins that are a little lively and austere on the finish". (Guide Hachette). The power of the Southwest!

Montravel
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 90/ 100
Domain rated 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
Melted nose, leather, ripe fruit, cinnamon, very aromatic palate, round, flattering, with straightforward tannins and length. Well-made, with potential.
About the domain :
Sylvie and Jean-François Deffarge have been working hard since 1981 to raise the Montravel flag on this estate inherited from Jean-François' father. Today, it covers 52 hectares on the slopes and plateau of Vélines. The vineyard has not yet gone organic, but is striving to do the best it can. The next generation is already in the starting blocks: Quentin and Benjamin are now involved in the life of the estate and are taking it in hand. Their extensive, well-structured range enables them to offer wines for every occasion. The new winery will enable them to push their vision even further, with the addition of some experimental cuvées.

About the domain :
A very old family estate (1749) located on the heights of Montravel, this vast domaine is today one of the benchmarks in the Bergerac region, thanks to the work carried out since 1990 (when it left the cooperative) by Jean-François Deffarge, a "self-taught oenologist", who is now handing over to his children Benjamin and Quentin. The vineyard (50 ha) extends over 2 very distinct terroirs: clay-limestone slopes and a boulbène plateau. In organic conversion.
Gilbert & Gaillard
Wine rated (2020 guide) 90/100
About the wine:
Beautiful dark color, beginning to evolve. Generous nose combining plum, dried fruit, liquorice and mixed spices. Full-bodied, concentrated and deep on the palate, still dominated by its structure. We are won over by its fullness, its ripe, greedy substance. A pretty wine for the future.

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 04/07/2024
Just as dapper but less full-bodied than the 2016, Cent pour 100 2017 is such a well-crafted and well-aged wine that it offers a fine balance between controlled strength and restrained freshness perfectly reflecting its terroir. Intense, crisp flavors of ripe red fruit and blackcurrant, combined with sweet spices and well-integrated woody nuances envelop the palate in a dynamic, luscious body. Structured tannins are fine and elegant, while the full, persistent, jammy fruit flavors end on an ever-competitive mineral edge. Likely to evolve over the next five years. Already appreciated in its youth after decanting for its aromatic and juicy character with a Perigord salad. Score = 4.
