Frey-Sohler Estate
Frey-Sohler is the story of a family of winegrowers closely linked to the vine for 5 generations. In the 1940s, grandfather Xavier FREY set up the large grape market where the famous Alsatian houses came to stock up on Riesling. Today the estate Frey-Sohler covers some 30 ha, and is run by the Sohler brothers: Nicolas, the winemaker, is also in charge of the vines. Jean is in charge of labeling, and Damien is in charge of sales and administration. The sixth generation has just joined the domaine.

Frey-Sohler wines come exclusively from the family estate, which produces wines under the Alsace appellations: AOC Alsace, AOC Crémant d'Alsace and AOC Grand Cru d'Alsace. In the "Alsace" appellation, the estate vinifies the 7 authorized grape varieties: Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Muscat, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer for white wines, and Pinot Noir for rosés and reds. The estate has been Terra Vitis certified since the 2015 vintage.

"Sparkling Alsace

"While the domaine offers the full range of Alsace wines, the village of Scherwiller and its surrounding area is home to many terroirs favorable to Riesling, the only grape variety used in this crémant from the 2020 harvest. On the nose, floral notes (honeysuckle, lime blossom) are accompanied by a "petrol-like" minerality characteristic of the grape variety. This character is reflected in a supple attack on the palate, followed by a lively finish". (Le Guide Hachette 2024) Daring, but successful!

"Crisp fruit, supple, finely spiced body, lively but very fine tannins for this wine that hits the bull's eye and stands out from the crowd, luminous and invigorating, endowed with excellent energy for want of more complexity." (La Revue du Vin de France, March 2022 n°658)

"Reflecting the granitic soil and a sunny year, this 2020 is very expressive on the nose, finely floral and mineral, with a hint of preserved lemon. White fruit adds to this palette on the full, fat, silky palate, balanced by ripe acidity. A fine Riesling de terroir". (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

93/100 Decanter

This Gewurztraminer Rittersberg is a true purveyor of pleasure, with its sweetness accompanying aromas of vine peach, lychee, jasmine and rose petals. On the palate, we savor the honeyed, spicy touch enveloped in fruity, floral fragrances. A racy, bewitching Gewurztraminer!

Frey-Sohler - Alsace Instant Douceur Riesling Sélection de Grains Nobles (liquoreux) 2015

2*Étoiles Hachette

"A winemaker often singled out for his late harvests. This year, a straw-yellow selection de grains nobles that combines power and elegance. On the nose, quince, candied apricot and citrus peel. This complex, rich fruitiness carries through to a highly concentrated, ample and generous palate, purified by a fresh, saline finish with accents of lime. Already harmonious, this 2015 will improve with age". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2019)
