"The aromas of fresh green apple have a pleasant earthy touch. The palate takes this green apple freshness and envelops it completely with creamy and expressive notes of yeast, earth, and cream. The wonderful freshness gives it a light and airy quality. The finish is completely clean, making you want to come back for more." (Wine Enthusiast 2018) Fresh Organic bubbles Organic

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

The Rieflés—Jean-Claude and his sons Thomas and Paul—significantly expanded their vineyard when they took over Seppi Landmann's plots. Their vines now stretch from Pfaffenheim to Soultzmatt, at the bottom of the Noble Valley. The vineyards are meticulously tended, with careful consideration given to soil conservation, and this is evident when tasting the wines from recent vintages. Especially since Jean-Claude Rieflé has returned from his experiments with natural wines, which intrigued us greatly a few years ago. Their terroir wines express a gastronomic salinity.

Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

At Rieflé, it's a family affair: the first winemaker in the family appeared in 1830. Today, Thomas takes care of the vines, Paul handles marketing, and Jean-Claude, the father, makes the wine. But it's their daily dialogue that drives the estate forward. The 2011 vintage, marked by the acquisition of the famous Seppi Landmann estate, coincided with the start of a winemaking process that sought greater purity: more richness and texture, but without the sugars, and a slightly longer aging period on fine lees. New packaging also promises greater clarity in the range on offer. Finally, it is worth noting the entry-level range by type of wine, which may be blends: L'Éclat, a dry wine; L'Aplomb, round and full-bodied; L'Arabesque, aromatic; and L'Étoffe, a red.

Leave to age for a few months. Not impressive when first opened (little aroma, flat on the palate), but more enjoyable the next day.

Very delicate and almost deserves decanting to appreciate the floral and exotic fruit aromas.
