Château de la Chaize
Château de la Chaize, previously owned by the Marquise de Roussy de Sales, was bought by Christophe Gruy and his Maïa group. With 150 hectares of vineyards, Château de la Chaize is one of the finest estates in the Beaujolais region, and the new owner aims to convert it to organic production. A great ambition for great wines to discover!

"An extraordinary spicy, balsamic complexity covers the blackberries (but not too ripe) of this concentrated, imposing Brouilly. The texture is so silky, it's hard to tear yourself away! The very long, intense finish never ceases to expel fruit. Should age very well". (James Suckling 2022)

"Very well structured, restrained and elegant with a fresh, delicate personality for this warm vintage, this is a really striking Fleurie. I love the interplay between tart cherry and fine tannins on a concentrated, elegant palate. It develops slowly in the glass as it airs. Very long and elegant finish". (James Suckling 2023)

"I love the delicate aromas of red fruits and wild flowers in this fresh, subtle Brouilly. It's only medium-bodied, but has a lovely balance of fine tannins, wet-stone minerality and elegant acidity. The long finish is well supported by well-built tannins." (James Suckling 2023).
Château de la Chaize - Brouilly 2020
91/100 James Suckling
"I love the nose of violets that literally burst forth, then the combination of ripeness and juiciness on the palate, where the tannins are discreetly present, underlining the cherry and blackcurrant sweetness. A rather impressive interplay of warmth (those tannins) and mineral freshness on the long finish. To drink or to keep" (James Suckling 2022). A magnificent Brouilly.

"The Fleurie 2019 ripples in the glass with lovely aromas of sweet berries, spices, rose petals and orange peel. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and fragrant, with melted tannins and lively acidity, it's pretty and delicate, with lovely purity of fruit that reflects intensive sorting after a botrytis outbreak." "More often in the spotlight for its brouillys, the domaine makes a strong impression with this admirable Côte-de-Brouilly, born of 60-year-old vines rooted in bluestone soil (1 ha). The nose elegantly blends morello cherry, blackberry and spices with a fine, racy woodiness (18 months in barrel) and a more mineral touch. The palate is straightforward on the attack, then develops with finesse, without excess, but with great depth, around delicate, silky tannins enveloped by luscious fruit and woody, cocoa-tinged tones. A bottle that will age serenely". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022)

"Boris Gruy has extracted a stunning 2018 from this 3.5-hectare, mulberry-girdled vineyard dating back to 1676. After 18 months in tuns, it boasts an intense, complex nose of ripe black fruits, violets, undergrowth and pepper. The spicy, fruity notes are enhanced by a touch of licorice on the full, dense, ripe palate, with firm yet fine tannins that give this wine a lovely chewy texture. An intense, deep and impeccably clean Brouilly ". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022).

"The 2019 Brouilly opens in the glass with notes of cherries, peonies, orange peel and warm spices. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and lively, with powdered tannins, attractive fruit purity and a precise finish, it continues this vintage's upward trajectory." (Wine Advocate 2021). An expressive, generous Brouilly.
Château de la Chaize - Brouilly 2018

"Brimming with cherry, plum and blackberry aromas, the 2018 Brouilly is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a vibrant core of fruit. This is another fine performance for the rapidly improving Château de La Chaize." (Wine Advocate 2020). An expressive, generous Brouilly.
Château de la Chaize - Fleurie 2018
4/5 (6 reviews)
92/100 Wine Enthusiast
"This is a vibrant, structured wine with a good balance between tannins and exuberant black fruit. In this sense, this cuvée is typically Fleurie: ripe, full and on the way to acquiring an increasingly attractive maturity. Drink from 2021. (Wine Enthusiast 2020)

"Parcel-by-parcel vinification, 90% de-stemmed, "Burgundian" style, for this racy brouilly with rich, precise aromas of black fruits, peonies, spices... The wine is full-bodied, velvety, silky and elegant". (Bourgogne Aujourd'hui n° 152 - April-May 2020). From one of the greatest terroirs in the Brouilly appellation, where vines range in age from 50 to 115 years, Combiliaty is a parcel-based cuvée offering great richness and fullness, with a gourmet bouquet of black fruits. Powerful and virile, this is a wine made for laying down.

Protected by walls built in 1976, Clos la Chaize offers us a Brouilly of the highest order. Beyond its fruity juice with hints of quetsche, the porphyroid granite terroir lends elegance and length to the wine, which gives off the scent of sun-warmed stone. Delicacy, chewiness and potential are the watchwords of this great Brouilly.
