Clos Puy Arnaud
Thierry Valette wasn't destined for a career as a winemaker. Although his ancestors had been involved in the wine business for four generations, he had a particular attraction to the arts, and in particular to modern dance and jazz.

It was only later that Thierry Valette decided to take over, first at Château Pavie, the family estate acquired by his great-grandfather in the 1940s. He also learned from François Mitjaville at Château le Tertre Roteboeuf, Peter Sichel in the Corbières and Stéphane Derenoncourt at Château Pavie Macquin.
Thierry Valette then met biodynamic specialist Anne Calderoni to guide the Clos Puy Arnaud vineyard towards organic and biodynamic farming.

Today, Clos Puy Arnaud wines are a synthesis between the tradition of finesse and elegance found in the Grands Vins de la Rive Droite, and a hedonistic approach that demands fruit, pleasure and freshness. These wines can be drunk young or cellared for several years.

Benefiting from a spectacular terroir of predominantly asteriated limestone common to the premier crus classés, the soils bring finesse, freshness and minerality to the grapes, with deep, complex bouquets rivaling those of the most prestigious terroirs. Opting for the demands of biodynamic viticulture, Thierry Valette has rapidly established himself as an outstanding winemaker, skilfully crafting a wine that rivals the greatest and is among the most original in Bordeaux.
At present, the vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

"Extraordinary character and personality! Vinous "

"Clos Puy Arnaud 2020 is one of the great wines of this vintage. Rich, deep and deliciously layered, Clos Puy Arnaud shows just how convincing Côtes de Castillon can be. Notes of red fruit, blood orange, spice and mocha invade the palate. Silky tannins envelop the rich, inviting finish. The saline energy and precision of this wine are simply unreal. This is a wine of extraordinary character and personality." (Vinous 2022)

"A Bordeaux of this stature at this price is a bargain!"

"Deep plum color tinged with ink and a complex nose full of ambition. The fruit is held together by lovely acidity and firm tannins, a touch of rusticity but brambles and the weight of blackberries bring a sense of pleasure. Delightful to see such a successful 100% Cabernet Franc, highlighting the best that grape variety and terroir can bring. Expect even deeper aromas with a few more years in bottle. Drink between 2020-2035..." (Decanter) Thierry Valette, the great winemaker from Castillon, needs no introduction: here again, he has achieved success! A pleasure cuvée at its best, a bargain to buy by the case!

"With an admirable backbone and a deep, intense palate, this 2014 flies over the wines of Castillon. Intense, concentrated in fruit and superbly balanced in ageing, this is a magnificent wine." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2017 - RVF) With its unique depth and complexity, this vintage flies over its peers and rivals the greatest. Grace, rigor, freshness, density, it has it all and will age magnificently well. A new star for your cellar.

Puy Arnaud - Cuvée Pervenche 2013

14/20 Gault & Millau

Tasted blind by Andreas Larsson, World's Best Sommelier 2007, Cuvée Pervenche 2013 is described as "feminine". He also speaks of the texture "rather Burgundian; so round and delicate, seductive, a beautiful purity of fruit and a long finish." A very good wine recognized by professionals and amateurs alike.

"Thierry Valette, a renowned winemaker, has created this wine. A blend of Merlot and Cabernet from a biodynamic vineyard. The revelation of the vintage, this wine has a dense ruby/purple color, notes of black cherry and cassis, chalky minerality, good substance, excellent concentration, depth and length. The purity, overall balance and silky tannins suggest that this wine can be enjoyed in its youth or cellared for a decade." (Wine Advocate 2015 - Robert Parker)
