Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2018 guide) 16.5/20 (Reference wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the wine:

Beautiful intensity, red and black fruit, powerful but ripe tannin, good length and volume, good balance. Solid and robust, with real tannin maturity. Good length. One of the most successful in the château's recent history and an industry classic.

About the domain :

Owned by the Cuvelier family since 2008 (who also own Clos Fourtet, in Saint-Émilion), this deep-gravel vineyard on the Grand Poujeaux plateau enjoys formidable terroirs as well as optimal facilities. Recommended by Stéphane Derenoncourt, the result is one of the finest moulis ever made, both rich and suave.

Guide Hachette des vins

Guide Hachette des vins

Domaine noté (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

Forgotten in the 1855 classification, Moulis having long remained a cereal-growing region, this cru is nevertheless one of the most renowned in the Médoc. A former seigneury dependent on Latour Saint-Maubert, the future Ch. Latour, it experienced a boom in the 1920s with the Theil family, who unified the vineyard, now 68 ha in a single block on the beautiful gravelly terroir of Grand-Poujeaux, and brought the estate to the top of the appellation. Since 2008, it has belonged to Philippe Cuvelier, owner of Clos Fourtet (Saint-Émilion's 1er grand cru classé), who maintains the highest standards of quality.

Wine rated (2017 guide) 16/20 (Very good)

About the wine:

Elegant wine with vibrant, spicy black fruit and a hint of graphite for complexity. Smooth, delicate mouthfeel, with a taut finish.

Rated (2018 guide) 16.5/20 (Very good wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

In addition to its usual suave elegance, the 2015 adds extra density. A complete and very seductive wine that will evolve well.

About the domain :

An emblematic property of the appellation, Poujeaux has belonged to the Cuvelier family (Clos Fourtet) since 2008. Under the leadership of its director, Christophe Labenne, advised by Stéphane Derenoncourt, the wines have steadily progressed, reaching a good cruising speed, so that the cru remains a benchmark in the appellation. The style tends towards finesse and elegance, which is perfectly suited to this cru, which nevertheless ages very well. The latest vintages are on target.
