Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson
Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson is one of the flagship estates of Saint-Romain, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune region. Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson has been a family business for 8 generations, and is certified Organic and soon Biodyvin as of the 2019 vintage. The vineyard covers 19 hectares shared between 15 appellations, with a predominance for the Saint-Romain appellation. Other wines include Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and Corton. So many village appellations, 1ers Crus and Grands Crus produced by these winemakers whose motto is to make good wines at prices that are still reasonable for the region.

The vineyards of Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson are carefully tended, with priority given to small yields, rigorous, reasoned cultivation practices with no chemical inputs, and harvesting exclusively by hand. In conversion since 2009, Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson has been certified organic since 2012. In the cellar, vinification is just as meticulous and traditional. The emphasis is on fruit and roundness. Henri et Gilles Buisson wines are then aged in oak barrels for 12 months.

"Saint-Romain of predilection

"The Saint-Romain Sous La Velle 2022 is a little more reserved on the nose, a little chalky, with light aromas of Golden Delicious apple and orange pulp. The definition is fine and the oak is well integrated. The palate is well balanced, with a hint of orange zest on the attack. The wine's fine acidity gives it real tension and impressive depth on the vibrant finish. Sous La Velle is often one of Saint-Romain's favorite vineyards, and this wine proves exactly why." (Vinous 2023)

"Transcends the appellation

"The Saint-Romain Sous Roche 2022 presents an airy bouquet of raspberry and cranberry with hints of undergrowth that reveal themselves with aeration. The palate has a certain chewy attack, the tannins here being a little softer than those of Beaune reds, with a hint of white pepper on the finish. Give it a year in bottle. (Vinous 2023)

"A very great Burgundy

"The Corton Le Rognet-et-Corton Grand Cru 2022, made from around 40% whole clusters, has a stubborn, retro nose that refuses to express itself despite vigorous aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, with a supple, slightly candied entry, hints of marmalade and orange peel infusing the red fruits with a candied finish." (Vinous 2023)

"The most intense of the estate's Saint-Romains".

"The Saint-Romain Sous Le Château 2022 has a very clean, precise, mineral bouquet, with lovely fleeting aromas of yellow plum and clementine. The palate is taut and firm, the opposite of what you'd expect from a warm season, with just a touch of reduction on the lemon verbena-tinged finish. A fine wine" (Vinous 2023)

"Structured and refined

"Offering aromas of cherries, sweet red berries and plums mixed with hints of licorice and spice, the 2020 Santenay 1er Cru Clos de la Comme is medium to full-bodied, with acid notes, powdery tannins and a penetrating finish. It is more structured than its communal counterpart, though still quite refined." (Wine Advocate 2022)

"Defying Santenay stereotypes

"A new cuvée from a south-facing site, Santenay Croix Sorine 2020 delivers aromas of sweet berries, cherries, licorice and loamy earth. Medium to full-bodied, fluid and charming, it's a generous, sensual wine that defies Santenay stereotypes. " (Wine Advocate 2022)

"Immediate pleasure

"Notions of rich cherries, berries, loamy soil and bitter chocolate foreshadow the Saint-Romain Combe Bazin 2020, a medium- to full-bodied, lively and refined wine framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. This cuvée from younger vines is usually the most immediate red in the range, but in the 2020 vintage, it seems to have acquired another dimension of seriousness." (Wine Advocate 2022) A charming, crisp Pinot that offers beautiful dimension and immediate pleasure.

"The 2020 Pommard Les Petits Noizons is very attractive, delivering aromas of cherries, sweet berries, loamy earth, spice and orange zest, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and fleshy palate. With lively acids and good depth at the core, this is an elegant, harmonious wine from this premier communal-level lieu-dit." (Wine Advocate 2022) Quintessential Pinot Noir, this wine celebrates the balanced marriage of power and elegance.

"Finesse and intensity

"Behind a fine, pleasant reduction, we discover a fine, intense wine with very pure, chiselled but ripe fruit, with beautiful bitters and a pleasant grapefruit note. A fine introduction to the domaine. A fine contemporary interpretation of white Burgundy". (Le Guide RVF 2023)

"A very great Burgundy

"The 2020 Corton Grand Cru Le Rognet et Corton went down very well, relaxing in the glass with aromas of dark berries, spice, bitter chocolate, loamy earth and vine smoke. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with lively acids, fine, chalky tannins and a long, penetrating finish, this is one of the best Buisson Brothers reds I've tasted." As soon as the bottle is opened, notes of red and black berries and violets develop. On the palate, we find morello cherry and blackcurrant aromas with velvety tannins that create a fine balance between roundness and volume.
