L'AOC Sartène covers 180 ha in the south of the island, bordering the Ajaccio appellation and facing the Gulf of Propriano, and produces red, rosé and white wines. Its terroir, located on the slopes of the Ortolo or Rizzanese, is made up of granite. It's airy, porous and much appreciated by vines for its humidity, in an arid, windy climatic zone that leaves little room for rainfall.
The Corsican grape varieties ofAOC Sartène: Sciaccarellu, Niellucciu, Barbarossa and Vermentinu produce full-bodied, velvety wines with a strong personality. Remarkably full-bodied, robust reds (6 to 7 years cellaring potential), full-bodied rosés and ample, bouquety whites with green highlights.
