Vino de la Tierra Castilla is a regional appellation covering all wines from the autonomous region of Castilla y Leon in central Spain. The DO Vino de la Tierra Castilla label was formalized in 1999, and its geographical area covers all the municipalities in the region. This designation was introduced to identify quality wines produced in Spain, but which could not meet the requirements of a specific DO, thus enabling them to stand out from wines from Chile or Australia.
Given the extent of the regional appellation, Vino de la Tierra Castilla is made up of numerous terroirs and produces wines of great diversity. Whether red or white, Vino de la Tierra Castilla can be made from a wide range of grape varieties, both indigenous and international.
The Vino de la Tierra Castilla appellation can offer some pleasant surprises. The vintages offered by Cellers Genium, Vinos de Arganza or Bodegas Mauro - San Roman are clear proof of this.
