"Vega Sicilia's Valbuena is a triumph, according to the Wine Advocate!
"Extremely fragrant with violets and a bouquet of flowers. Then blue fruits like blueberries and raspberries. Medium-bodied, with beautifully crafted tannins that give superb mouthfeel and finesse. Refinement, depth and concentration. Wonderful to drink now, but will be even better in four or five years." Expert opinion
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Rated (guide 2024) 95/100 (Extraordinary wine)
Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
The obsession in 2019 was to avoid over-ripeness and retain freshness, so they made a gentler vinification, used larger vats for aging and used less American wood. The 2019 Valbuena was made from a blend of Tinto Fino and 3% Merlot. It has 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.88 and 4.6 grams of acidity. I love the nose; it's fragrant and subtle. And the wine has a lovely texture; the tannins are very fine, silky even, very different from the tannins of the other 2019s in the group I tasted alongside this one, Macán and Pintia. A triumph over the conditions of the year, this is a more elegant Valbuena than I expected. 2024-2032
