Domaine Bardi d'Alquier
A wind of renewal is blowing through the Alquier estate, which for some years has been in the process of being passed on. Jean-Michel Alquier, famous Languedoc winemaker and leading figure in Faugères, passed the torch in 2017 to Sophie and Thibaud Bardi de Fourtou. Now renamed Bardi d'Alquier in homage to this great Languedoc figure, the estate is now run by Sophie and Thibaud Bardi de Fourtou, who continue Jean-Michel Alquier's work, respecting traditions, as close to the terroir as possible, with the most natural cultivation possible, while adding their own personal touch.

Located in the Faugères appellation area, in the Languedoc region, Domaine Bardi d'Alquier comprises 12 hectares of vines, almost all dedicated to the production of red wines (10 hectares), on schistose soils, mainly on hillsides. The majority of the vineyard is planted with Syrah for impressive aromatics, complemented by Grenache Noir for finesse and elegance, and Mourvèdre for final complexity. White grape varieties account for 2 hectares of the vineyard, with Marsanne, Roussanne, Grenache blanc and Sauvignon.

These wines are as delicious as ever, combining finesse, complexity and expression of the Faugères terroir. A must in Faugères.

"A great, flattering, ready-to-drink Faugères, an exclusive by Jean-Michel Alquier.

"Les Grandes Bastides d'Alquier 2012 [...] has developed aromas of dried cherries and cigar box, with lots of vanilla, but also hints of licorice and roasted meat. It's medium-bodied, with supple tannins, a creamy, chewy mouthfeel and remarkably mouthwatering length on the finish. Drink now, it should last another 4-5 years with no problem." (Wine Advocate 2020). Limited quantities.

"A rosé to accompany your summer with finesse".

Let yourself be carried away by this elegant, delicate cuvée, with its aromatic palette of citrus fruits (pomelo, kumquat) and a hint of agastache flower. The rosé is lively and taut on the palate, then enveloping, taking over the whole palate to express itself fully. The finish ends with a light, fruity return.

Jean-Michel Alquier's Faugères rosé has a very pale, almost translucent color. It expresses aromas of fresh fruit with a subtle floral touch. On the palate, it's as round, smooth and refined as his other cuvées. A fresh, thirst-quenching wine!

Little did Jean-Michel Alquier know that the micro-cuvée he created less than 10 years ago would be in such demand that he'd barely be able to keep a few bottles! Here's his story: " In 2001 I had a small, rather 'rich' parcel for Faugères, and I didn't know what to plant! So I decided to introduce this grape variety ( Sauvignon) to my property. The root system develops more and more each year, promoting minerality. At the time, I was thinking that, if this wine became unsaleable, I could always drink it with Friends! Around 400 bottles a month, that's 13 bottles a day!!! " A rare cuvée to discover!
