Saint-Guilhem le désert
IGP Saint Guilhem le Désert is a Languedoc appellation located in the north of the Hérault department. The Saint Guilhem le Désert vineyards are located at the foot of the Larzac plateau and the Cevennes mountains.

Situated between 100 and 150 meters above sea level, the vines of Saint Guilhem le Désert benefit from an ideal climate with Mediterranean influences. The soils are made up of schist, marl, limestone and molasse. Initially limited to 5 communes, the PGI that replaced the Vin de Pays appellation on December 31, 2012 now covers 71 communes meeting the climatic and geological criteria originally defined.

While many grape varieties are authorized to produce Saint Guilhem le Désert wines, the main ones used are Syrah, Grenache, Roussanne, Carrignan and Grenache Blanc. They enable producers to offer wines in three colors: white, rosé or red. Saint Guilhem le Désert white wines are full-bodied, tinged with acidity and fresh. They should be drunk young to appreciate their freshness. Such is the case with the crus offered by Domaine de l'Hortus.

A judicious blend of different grape varieties for this great Languedoc white. The initial nose is floral, opening onto delicate notes of yellow-fleshed fruit. Very energetic on the palate, the balance is astounding. The finish is round with gourmand notes, supported by light tannins and delicate bitters.
