Vinous
"An exceptional vintage that needs time to reveal its full potential."
The 2021 vintage was awarded three stars, and the 2022 vintage adds a Favorite already impressive list of accolades for this cuvée from the schist terroirs of Champon, Plomb, and Grandes Places. The jury loved its captivating and complex bouquet of fresh raspberry, bramble and paprika, crowned with elegant roasted notes from aging in new barrels (30% of the wine). As for the palate, full, dense and indulgent, framed by powerful tannins with a tactile grain, it just needs to settle down in the cellar. (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

Opulent and energetic, it exudes a consummate power, enhanced by the warm, spicy richness of its aromatics, the silky depth of its texture, and the refined firmness of its structure.

About the estate:
After studying in Beaune, then gaining experience in the United States and in the Bordeaux region, on his wife's estate (Ch. Filliol), Stéphane Pichat returned to his homeland to breathe new life into this old property, founded by his great-grandparents. Settling there in 2000, he began bottling wines and, from 5 hectares in Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu, produced wines of consistently impeccable quality.

About wine:
Notes of ripe black fruit, iron, truffled earth, and peppery meat emerge from the 2022 Côte Rôtie Champon's, a powerful, rich, and tannic wine that displays solid depth on the mid-palate, abundant tannins, and a good dose of acidity. This fleshy, gamey, and powerful 2022 will need to age well in the bottle to be drinkable, but it should be exceptional.
