Vidal-Fleury
30 km south of Lyon, on the banks of the Rhône, stands the oldest winery in the Rhône Valley still in operation: Maison Vidal-Fleury, located in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie vineyards. Founded in 1781, Vidal-Fleury quickly gained international renown. Thomas Jefferson's visit in 1787 was a milestone in its history. From the 1920s onwards, the winery began to take an interest in other terroirs in the Rhône Valley. By the mid-20th century, Vidal-Fleury had become the iconic winery of Côte-Rôtie. In 2008, with the addition of a new cellar dedicated to aging, Vidal-Fleury embarked on a new phase of development. The house has survived the centuries thanks to the tenacity of men who are resolutely in love with wine. Today, Maison Vidal-Fleury has no fewer than 19 appellations among the most prestigious in the Rhône Valley.

Four operations are involved in the production of wine: the vineyard, vinification, aging, and packaging. But not all of them involve the same challenges. Vidal-Fleury believes that only the vineyard and aging truly shape the personality of the wine. Vinification and packaging must be handled with excellence, but generate less differentiation among terroirs. The fine origins of the grapes and the patience of aging are what make Vidal-Fleury wines so special.
