Château Rombeau - Rivesaltes Ambré 2008 (50 cl)
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"Amber in color with slight green highlights, the robe heralds the onset of rancio. The same is true of the open, complex nose, which plays with spices, oak patina, dried figs, brandied fruit, and nuts. On the palate, it is full-bodied and delicate, smooth and fresh, silky. Aromas of dried fruit (apricot), smoke and coffee develop, before giving way to licorice and a lingering nutty note, typical of rancio." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2021)

About wine:
Amber in color with slight green highlights, the robe heralds the onset of rancio. The same is true of the open, complex nose, which plays with spices, oak barrel patina, dried figs, brandied fruit, and nuts. On the palate, it is full-bodied and delicate, smooth and fresh, silky. Aromas of dried fruit (apricot), smoke and coffee develop, before giving way to licorice and a lingering nutty note on the finish, typical of rancio.
About the estate:
The Dom. de Rombeau has been in the family since 1810. Pierre-Henri de La Fabrègue, a media-savvy winemaker, restaurateur, and hotelier, took over in 1993 and has brought great success to the estate. The estate's 90 hectares, including 27 hectares of organic land, produce Muscat de Rivesaltes, Rivesaltes and dry wines, both AOC and IGP. It is a large production, well known to readers of the Guide.

A full-bodied wine to be enjoyed on its own. The alcohol is present but balanced by lovely citrus notes (blood orange). Very nice freshness giving it a charming youthful air.

Nice label, but the wine is just okay. I've had better wines from this appellation.
