"True Braucol as you'd expect: behind the devilishly rustic bouquet lies the finer red fruit. You've got to love this style, which is a little rough around the edges, but ultimately very easy to digest". (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2022 - RVF). Braucol (or Fer Servadou) is a South-Western grape variety that produces a wine with herbaceous, mentholated flavors and tannins that provide good aging potential. The winemaking process produces a frank, fruity wine, full of charm!

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

Domaine rated (2023 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

True Braucol as you'd expect: behind the devilishly rustic bouquet lies the finer red fruit. You've got to love this style, which is a little rough around the edges, but ultimately very easy to digest.

About the domain :

The Plageoles family has left its mark on the recent history of wine in Gaillac. Robert, then Bernard and Myriam, who brilliantly took over from him, were pioneers in the defense of local grape varieties and ancestral winemaking techniques. Bernard's sons, Florent and Romain, are gradually taking over, defending the twelve varieties grown in their vineyards, including the delicious prunelart, the extremely rare verdanel and the mauzac quartet (green, red, pink and black). Away from fashion and the beaten track, the domaine continues to produce demanding, exclusively single-vineyard wines with strong personalities. This work of the head, the heart and the hands is fully reflected in a range of cuvées aiming for purity, uprightness and originality.

Very complicated, especially with a cassoulet, very acerbic, balance on the palate on the edge, even after 2 hours in the decanter. I threw the bottle away

An Occitan classic, whether it's called Fer servadou, mansois or braucol. I find it straightforward but a little too rustic.

2,5/5. A little rustic for my taste, and not as interesting as some of the estate's other single varietals.

I visited the domaine 25 years ago. At the time, I only knew woody Bordeaux. Suffice to say, I wasn't enchanted by Plageoles' reds. Fortunately, I've since learned to appreciate other wines, wines that don't tire you out and only make you want to try them again. The Braucol and the other Plageoles reds are original, fine and well-balanced. Wines that can be drunk with grilled meats, charcuterie or even on their own for pleasure.

Typical Gaillac wine, nice to be able to get it in Switzerland. Because it's not easy to find braucol.
