"A jewel in a bottle

"Salty and straight in the glass, it will soon be ready, as the vintage lends itself to it. Fresh lemon and salt are the main markers". (Le Guide Bettane + Desseauve). The body of this wine is both rich and fat, with a delicately mineral finish. This is an exceptionally long-keeping white that will reach its peak after ten or so years in bottle. - Delivery in wooden cases possible for orders of 3 bottles of this wine (depending on country and shipping method selected).

Rated 95/100

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the wine:

Salty and straight in the glass, it will soon be ready, as the vintage lends itself to it. Fresh lemon and salt are the main markers.

About the domain :

The Ribeauvillé winery is slowly evolving to keep up with the times. Trimbach, which has made the switch to Grand Cru wines, is currently undergoing organic conversion (certification planned for 2023). The process will require the involvement of grape and wine suppliers. Here, Riesling is king (55% of volumes). The terroirs are ideal: marl-limestone (Geisberg, Mandelberg, Clos-saint-Hune au Rosacker) or granite (Schlossberg, Brand). The cuvée frédéric-émile blends the grand crus Osterberg and Geisberg. The 2017 and 2019 vintages will make history.

About the wine:

The brightly colored Clos Ste Hune Riesling 2018 has an intense, highly concentrated bouquet of ripe fruit and crushed stone. Muschelkalk limestone dominates the palate, which reveals a powerful, dense and still rather bitter Riesling, including compact phenols that still cage this Riesling sleeping on a stony, saline bed. The finish, however, is very powerful and long. A bigger glass and more time would probably have helped this wine significantly, as I think it's bigger than this score suggests. Tasted at the estate in May 2022.

Wine rated (guide 2025) 97/100

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

More introverted, Clos Saint-Hune is built around a very firm mid-palate: particularly immature, it rests on a slender chew of precise bitters, and offers phenomenal length and vibrancy.

About the domain :

Trimbach, a landmark winery that stands proudly in the beautiful city of the minstrels, delights wine-lovers with its legendary Frédéric-Émile and Clos Sainte-Hune cuvées. From vintage to vintage, Pierre Trimbach vinifies Riesling in a vertical, dry style. His brother Jean manages worldwide sales. They are now supported by the new generation, Anne and Frédérique (Pierre's daughters) and Pauline and Julien (Jean's children). The family vinifies close to 60 hectares of property and around 100 hectares of purchased grapes. Since 2009, some of the grand crus have been claimed by Jean Trimbach and directly allocated in small quantities to the world's finest tables. Jean Trimbach is making an undeniable contribution to the development of Alsace wines, with emblematic cuvées at international level, while producing entry-level wines of consistent quality. The Pinot Noir range still has room for improvement.

About the wine:

Like velvet heavy in texture and weight, yet so fine and elegant, this well-concentrated Riesling has a mouthwatering backbone of acidity, offering layers of durian, pineapple, pickled ginger, pink grapefruit candy and stony minerals, with a long, savory finish. Refined and complex, it's just beginning to reveal all its facets. Drink now through 2035.

Wine rated (guide 2024) 97/100

About the wine:

100% limestone (Muschelkalk) for the Clos Ste Hune terroir. The bouquet is precise, imposing and subtle. The terroir begins to reveal itself, enhancing its chalky side while leaving room for floral and subtly fruity notes. On the palate, the wine does not fail to take up the imposing side of the bouquet. It is full-bodied, precise and lively, but also elegant. The symbiosis of salinity, liveliness and bitterness is exceptional. The wine clearly demands calm, time in the cellar and our patience. It's important to have patience, because even if today's level is magnificent, it will be even greater tomorrow and the day after. 2028-2050
