"A precise blend of 7 parcels"
"It's like stepping into a clearing covered with violets. The juiciness, velvety tannins, and elegant acidity create a very satisfying, medium-bodied wine on the palate. The fresh, moderately dry finish has good stony minerality and leaves you wanting more." (James Suckling 2025)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Château Thivin has begun renovating its vineyard with a focus on soil management. In conversion to organic farming, trellising on the steepest plots, such as La Chapelle, is now the norm. The range is wide: fruity whites and reds, Côte de Brouilly (Sept Vignes, Griottes de Brulhié). The magnificent trio of Godefroy, Chapelle, and Zaccharie particularly impressed and moved us this year. A priority for wine lovers and a source of some truly great wines.

About wine:
The Côte de Brouilly Les Sept Vignes 2023 offers aromas of black cherry, spicy ginger, and dried violet petals. Full-bodied and concentrated, the wine opens up with ampleness, finding more structure in the mid-palate, influenced by a layer of chalky tannins that accumulate as it progresses, ending with a satisfying and lasting impression of wet stones.
About the estate:
This historic estate continues to be one of the benchmarks for classic Beaujolais wines worthy of their age, and the 2019 vintage is a great success. As I wrote last year, the Geoffrays have banned herbicides and insecticides from their vineyards and are among the most conscientious farmers in the appellation, working towards organic certification. In the cellar, vinification is traditional, with semi-carbonic maceration and aging generally in large oak vats—although some small cuvées see a little new wood. A staple of France's finest restaurants—and this writer's table—any readers unfamiliar with these wines are strongly encouraged to seek them out. This year, the Brouilly Reverdon deserves a special mention, as it is particularly successful.

About wine:
Rich and sweet. Smooth and lively. Very satisfying, but a little riper than most. Slightly mellow on the finish. (JR)

About wine:
The Côte de Brouilly Les Sept Vignes 2023 was aged in 40-liter casks. It has a well-defined mineral bouquet, with pure aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry, and wild strawberry. It becomes more floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and consistent, with higher acidity than one might expect and a hint of crushed black pepper on the finish. It is excellent.

About wine:
It's like stepping into a clearing covered with violets. The juiciness, velvety tannins, and elegant acidity create a very satisfying, medium-bodied wine on the palate. The fresh, moderately dry finish has a nice stony minerality that makes you want to take another sip. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink now or keep.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 03/23/2025
Supple and voluminous, this cuvée has present, slightly tense but fine and satiny tannins, and in its youth releases a smooth juice with notes of Burlat cherries and sweet spices, with a beautiful liveliness and mineral freshness. A peppery, mouthwatering finish. Still needs a little time to fully blossom. We also appreciate its charmingly old-fashioned label. A great classic that is very pleasant to drink after aeration with a crispy pork breast with honey and spices. Rating = 4.
