Vinous

"Nice ripe fruit with great freshness (Jancis Robinson) "

"Côte de Brouilly Le Clos 2022 comes from more clayey soils at the bottom of the hillside in question. The nose, with its beautiful minerality and great tension, offers aromas of raspberry and blackcurrant leaf. The palate is medium-bodied, with sapid notes of black fruit, a touch of licorice on the mid-palate, and blood orange and spice box on the finish. This wine will need two or three years in bottle, but the wait will be worth it." (Vinous 2024)

Rated wine (guide 2025 ) 93/100

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

Château Thivin is currently renovating its vineyards, with a focus on soil management. In organic conversion, trellising on the steepest plots, such as La Chapelle, is now the rule. The range is wide: fruity whites and reds, Côte de Brouilly (Sept Vignes, Griottes de Brulhié). The magnificent trio of Godefroy, Chapelle and Zaccharie particularly impressed and moved us this year. A priority for wine lovers and an address for great wines.

About the domain :

This historic estate continues to set the standard for classic Beaujolais cru worthy of its age, and the 2019 vintage is a great success here. As I wrote last year, the Geoffrays have banned herbicides and insecticides from their vineyards and are among the most conscientious farmers in the appellation, working towards organic certification. In the cellar, vinification is traditional, with semi-carbonic maceration and ageing generally in tuns - although some small cuvées see a little new wood. A staple of France's finest restaurants - and this writer's table - all readers unfamiliar with these wines are urged to seek them out. This year, the Brouilly Reverdon deserves a special mention, as it's particularly successful.

About the wine:

Le Clos is still closed, but its flashy fruit hints at a great wine potential. Wait for at least three years.

About the wine:

Medium ruby. Lovely floral nose of rose, iris and violet. Black cherry and cassis on the palate, with a touch of kirsch for complexity. Lovely ripe fruit with great freshness.

Wine rated (guide 2024) 93/100

About the wine:

For an appellation that can be quite firm in structure, this wine has good flesh and silky tannins. Aromas of ripe red berries and cherries are accompanied by a fine trail of blood orange that enhances them nicely. From vines planted between 2004 and 2008 and trellised, but with a density of 7,000 vines per hectare. Organically grown grapes. For drinking or cellaring.
