Côte-de-Brouilly
The Côte-de-Brouilly appellation d'origine contrôlée is a communal appellation recognized since 1938. The Côte-de-Brouilly vineyard covers some 310 hectares in the communes of Saint-Lager, Odenas, Cercié and Quincié.

The soils are composed of metatufs and métadiorites, a hard volcanic rock known as the "blue stone" of Côte-de-Brouilly. Pink granite is also found on the hill's western slope. The Côte-de-Brouilly vineyards are located around Mont Brouilly, making it the only Beaujolais cru to take advantage of the fact that the vines face the four cardinal points. The grape variety used is, as throughout Beaujolais, Gamay noir à jus blanc. In recent years, the 80 winegrowers who produce Côte-de-Brouilly have focused on developing direct sales and marketing through the C.H.R. network: more than 40% of the cru is sold directly in major European countries. Côte-de-Brouilly is no less a quality wine, as are the products offered by Maison Coquard, Domaine Laurent Martray, Château Thivin, Domaine Daniel Bouland and Domaine des Terres Dorées.

"Nice ripe fruit with great freshness (Jancis Robinson) "

"Côte de Brouilly Le Clos 2022 comes from more clayey soils at the bottom of the hillside in question. The nose, with its beautiful minerality and great tension, offers aromas of raspberry and blackcurrant leaf. The palate is medium-bodied, with sapid notes of black fruit, a touch of licorice on the mid-palate, and blood orange and spice box on the finish. This wine will need two or three years in bottle, but the wait will be worth it." (Vinous 2024)

"A precise blend of 7 parcels

This Côte-de-Brouilly is a well-chosen blend of 7 Mont Brouilly parcels, each bringing its own character and complexity to the cuvée. Aromas of plums, red fruits and warm spices entice the palate. The finish is long and enveloping. Another fine cuvée to make your own!

"A complex palette of aromas, hailed by a 96th James Suckling!

"A truly astonishing wine for this difficult vintage, with a deep nose of violets, tangerine and spices. The medium-bodied, highly concentrated palate is stunningly concentrated. An explosive stony minerality drives the extremely long finish, which is skilfully supported by very fine tannins. This wine is just beginning to reach the peak of its youth, but it has great aging potential." (James Suckling 2024) A word of advice: wait before opening!

"Sweet melody of berries!"

"The expressive nose of red berries and summer flowers with a touch of blood orange draws you into this elegant, medium-bodied Cote-de-Brouilly, which has remarkably fine tannins for this difficult vintage. The finish is long and linear, with plenty of minerality, and the blood orange character accentuates the momentum. It's just beginning to reveal its true class." (James Suckling 2024)

"An elegant wine of great character, deep and refined".

"[...] this excellent Cote-de-Brouilly 2021 has a delicate nose of violets. Ripeness is excellent for this difficult vintage. On the palate, the acidity is more stimulating than acidic, and the wine is medium-bodied. The healthy tannins give great dynamism to the long finish". (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

"A charming vintage

"Côte de Brouilly 2022 has a well-defined bouquet of black fruits, with hints of gingerbread and dried herbs. The palate is fleshy on entry, medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity, harmonious with a silky finish. A Côte de Brouilly of great beauty". (Vinous 2024)

"A Gamay made for laying down".

A tribute to Zaccharie Geoffray, this wine is made from a selection of the best terroirs on plots of old vines. The wine's ambition is clearly evident, reflecting our know-how and precise ageing. A hint of toast and then fruit emerge on the nose. Depth and breed punctuate the palate, supported by a touch of acidity, elegant tannins and vibrant sapidity. A wine that should be kept for three to four years, and that will reveal itself over 10 years or more. A very fine bottle!

"The estate's octogenarian vines, rooted in a hectare of blue schist, produce a wine that is immediately seductive. Elegant notes of cherry and blueberry on the nose, followed by silky, fine tannins that flatter the palate. A great success in this demanding vintage". (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

This Cöte-de-Brouilly comes from vines planted due south, mid-slope, on a compound of yellow siliceous rock. Drink with goose terrine or bouchées à la reine.

Still from a living soil, this time on a volcanic terroir called Pierre Bleue de Brouilly, this Côte de Brouilly captivates with its dark color and intense notes of ripe black fruit, blackcurrant and spices. The freshness and minerality of the terroir combine to give maturity, depth, texture, balance and length to this great Beaujolais wine.

"More often in the spotlight for its brouillys, the domaine makes a strong impression with this admirable Côte-de-Brouilly, born of 60-year-old vines rooted in bluestone soil (1 ha). The nose elegantly blends morello cherry, blackberry and spices with a fine, racy woodiness (18 months in barrel) and a more mineral touch. The palate is straightforward on the attack, then develops with finesse, without excess, but with great depth, around delicate, silky tannins enveloped by luscious fruit and woody, cocoa-tinged tones. A bottle that will age serenely". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022)

"Half matured in vats and half in tuns, this full-bodied, complex wine clearly shows its full potential. The nose develops notes of ripe red fruit. On the palate, it has everything to please: fine tannins, volume, fruit, mellow oak, balance and length. A real treat. (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2020)

"From a relatively steep, south-facing slope, relatively high in altitude, Thivin's 2018 Côte de Brouilly La Chapelle is a big hit this year. In the glass, aromas of cherries, raspberries, spices and dried roses emerge. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with satiny, structuring tannins, excellent concentration and bright, succulent acidity." (Wine Advocate 2019 - William Kelley) A very pretty vintage not to be missed!
