Robert Parker

(Notes from the 2014 vintage)

Often described as feminine, Régnié is characterized by its fruitiness and roundness. The Vallières cuvée has fine, supple tannins and remarkable energy. A crisp, convivial wine, carried by the deliciousness of its fruit.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

After graduating with a degree in viticulture and oenology, Jean-Marc Burgaud settled in Morgon on the Côte de Py in 1989. Today, he owns 17 hectares across four appellations: Beaujolais-Villages red and white, Régnié, and Morgon, the latter representing 11.80 hectares. Jean-Marc Burgaud is a discreet winemaker, but you only have to mention his name in the vineyard to quickly understand that his reputation precedes him.

Wine rating (2015 guide) 89/100 (2014 vintage) (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the estate:

For several years running, I have observed that Jean-Marc Burgaud is a winemaker at the top of his game, and the success with which he has risen to the challenges of the 2021 vintage is further proof of this assertion. These are some of the most delicious wines produced in the region today, and they are all the better for Burgaud's decision to abandon new oak in favor of dry wood and pursue a gentler extraction than in the past, with his semi-classical carbonic macerations lasting 7 to 15 days depending on the cuvée. And there is only one bottling of each wine, which gives a rare consistency, even for his 4.3 hectares in Beaujolais-Lantignié (one of the best values in the region, by the way).

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

Since establishing his estate in 1989, Jean-Marc Burgaud has become a fixture in our guide. From his apprenticeship in Burgundy, he has retained the practice of working with single vineyard cuvées, aging that sometimes extends over two winters, and destemming adapted to the year and the wine. His winemaking always brings a velvety touch to Gamay, achieved through barrel aging (very little new oak) adjusted according to each climate (most of which are located on different terroirs in Morgon). He also produces Régnié and Beaujolais-Villages on the granite soils of Lantignié. The style has opened up over time, without losing sight of the expression of the terroir.

Although the acidity remains quite dominant, this wine is a pleasure to drink thanks to its harmony and complex finesse.
