"With considerable potential, this wine is firm, ripe, and full of
black fruit juice. The structure and fruitiness are already in harmony.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (A serious production, recommendable, in line with what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Located near the Moulis train station, the architecture of Château Maucaillou is quite unusual, combining Renaissance and 18th-century styles. Owned by the Dourthe family since 1929, it was Pascal who, with the help of his two sisters Magali and Caroline, took over the reins in 2007, continuing the work begun by their father Philippe. Since the 2009 vintage, Magali has changed the style of the wines, which are now smoother and more modern than in the past, while remaining vigorous and suitable for aging.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
A flagship wine from Moulis, founded in 1875 in the localities of Caubet and Maucaillou ("bad stone"), a gravelly hilltop unsuitable for growing grain for medieval farmers, but ideal for vines. Owned by the Dourthe family since 1929, this estate has grown from 3.5 hectares at that time to 90 hectares today. Philippe Dourthe, the current owner, has entrusted its management to his three children.
