"The jewel in the crown of the Todeschini brothers, talented organic winemakers!
"Mangot 2020 proved magnificent, bursting with aromas of cherry, wild berry, rose petal, blood orange and bay leaf. Medium- to full-bodied, supple and seamless, it's pure and vibrant, with a layered core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, mouthwatering chalky finish. This is a brilliant wine that sells for a pittance and outshines many of its better-known neighbors." (Wine Advocate 2022)

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2022) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the domain :
Yann and Karl Todeschini have taken the measure of this family estate in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse: it comprises 34 hectares of single vineyard on four types of terroir dominated by clay-limestone sectors. The wines are dense, powerful and compact, and must be aged or decanted 2 hours before serving.
Decanter
Wine rated (guide 2021) 94/100
About the wine:
Bright plum color, full of flesh and bright fruit. Muscular on the attack, with poise and concentration, animated by blueberry notes and saline minerality. A good wine, pleasant and remarkably well-balanced, with a toasty finish and smoky rosemary. 20% new oak, 30% amphora. Owned by the Todeschini brothers. 2025 - 2040
Guide Hachette des vins

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the wine:
Partially aged in amphorae (20%), with the remainder in barrels and vats, this estate takes the path of modernity head on. Intense aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry mingle on the nose, followed by a powerful, full-bodied, deep palate carried by sculptural tannins. To be cellared with serenity. 2027 - 2035
About the domain :
Founded in 1951 by Jean Petit, the vineyards cover 37 ha in a single block of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, on a terroir rich in asteriated limestone (Mangot, an ancient cru mentioned as early as 1510), and 16 ha in Castillon (La Brande), rigorously tended since 1989 by Jean-Guy and Anne-Marie Todeschini, joined in 2008 by their sons Karl and Yann. The vineyard has been fully certified organic since 2020, and is currently undergoing conversion to biodynamic viticulture.

About the domain :
First mentioned in 1546, Château Mangot has survived the centuries to become a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru in the commune of Saint-Etienne-de- Lisse, in the eastern part of the appellation. In 1952, Simone and Jean Petit bought Mangot with the idea of restoring the estate to its former glory. Within 30 years, they had increased the estate from 5 to 37 hectares. In 1989, their daughter and her husband, Anne-Marie and Jean-Guy Todeschini, took over, not without restructuring the vineyard and modernizing the facilities. In 2008, Karl and Yann, after studies and internships in France and abroad, joined their parents to bring enthusiasm, precision and modernity. What do these 3 generations have in common? One philosophy: to act simply and as naturally as possible, using common sense. In order to preserve the balance of nature, we have opted for the "lutte raisonnée" (integrated pest management) method. In the winery, we work on a parcel-by-parcel basis to ensure that each of the estate's 22 parcels expresses its full potential. The family also owns 25 hectares in Castillon, with Château le Brande.

Rated wine (guide 2022) 95/100
About the wine:
The 2020 challenge of freshness in wine has been mastered at Mangot. This is the fruit of Karl and Yann Todeschini's attentive listening to the terroir. Chalky nuances underline the freshness. They are complemented by fruity and spicy notes. The wine is full-bodied, lively, juicy and harmonious. Superb symbiosis of incisive acidity and fullness. Rousing, captivating and persistent. 2025 - 2045

A very promising Mangot 2020! Well-balanced, with fine tannins, a mid-palate of black fruits and a more acidic finish reminiscent of red fruits.
