Xavier Vignon - Beaumes-de-Venise Arcane L'Étoile
95/100

"A shooting star to catch"
"From the highest altitude sites, Arcane l'Étoile is another elegant cuvée from Xavier, focused on finesse that is both rich and fresh. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, as well as a small amount of Viognier from 2015, 2016, and 2017. There is something profound in its texture and balance. Notes of black raspberries, redcurrants, dried flowers, lavender, and pepper make up this beautiful, full-bodied, elegant wine that could well become one of the greatest red wines to come out of Beaumes de Venise. Balanced in terms of freshness, consistency, and concentration to such an extent that you don't feel its 15% alcohol content. The tannic structure is rich in macerated black fruits, with a smoky accent. The texture is flattering, with a patinated character. A hint of bitterness is drowned out by the silky finish. Highly recommended with tender roast wild boar, served with a Byrrh/clementine/dark chocolate sauce and creamy polenta. Rating = 4.

Once again, Xavier Vignon offers us a wine of exceptional quality, bordering on perfection for a Beaume de Venise, with a dense texture and perfect length on the palate.

Very disappointed with the Christmas Eve wine. Despite decanting, it was just average, as was the second bottle on New Year's Day. I love Xavier Vignon wines, but now I'm having second thoughts!
