"Expressive nose of dark fruits, roasted meat, smoke and dried leaves, with baking spices and hints of fireplace. Full-bodied, with finely grained tannins. Suave texture and character. An elegant Hermitage with controlled power at every stage. Precise and concentrated, it nonetheless has a bright fruity center, with succulent cherries and wild currants bringing freshness and vigor. A superb wine." (James Suckling 2024)

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)
About the domain :
Michel Tardieu and Dominique Laurent created this association of excellence in the early 1990s, becoming one of the finest micro-negociants in the Rhône Valley. Today, Bastien and Michel Tardieu criss-cross the vineyards to find the best supplies, generally grapes from very old vines, often located in the historic heart of each appellation. In recent vintages, a real transformation has taken place: large casks, vinification using whole grapes for certain cuvées and, above all, a more measured approach to ageing have raised the already excellent level of quality even higher. A sure bet for the region.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Estate rated 6*Stars (Outstanding production)
About the domain :
A wine enthusiast, Michel Tardieu teamed up with Dominique Laurent, the brilliant Burgundy négociant and winemaker, to start a small négoce business a decade ago. Michel Tardieu is unsurpassed when it comes to unearthing old-vine cuvées in all the Rhone appellations; add Dominique Laurent's expertise in maturing wines, with his magnificent barrels, and you've got a powerhouse duo crafting some of the Rhone's most extraordinary cuvées.

Wine rated (guide 2022) 16.5++/20
About the wine:
Powerful licorice nose - heavier and fleshier than the Côte Rôtie Vieilles Vignes. Then soft, with a hint of oak. Needs a little time to fade. Big and bold, but these are ingredients rather than a finished wine.
Vinous A. Galloni
Wine rated (guide 2023) 92/100
About the wine:
L'Hermitage 2021 presents lively nuances of raspberry, red cherry, leaf, cedarwood and violet. Polished and round, the 2021 seduces the palate with its great concentration and juicy fruitiness.

About the wine:
Expressive nose of black fruits, roasted meat, smoke and dried leaves, with baking spices and hints of fireplace. Full-bodied, with finely grained tannins. Suave texture and character. An elegant Hermitage with controlled power at every stage. Precise and concentrated, it nonetheless boasts bright fruit in the center, with succulent cherries and wild currants adding freshness and vigor. A superb wine. To be enjoyed now, but best from 2026.

About the wine:
Exotic cherry and raspberry as well as spring flowers, spices and sappy herbal notes all shine in Michel Tardieu's Hermitage 2021, one of the most concentrated, structured and textured 2021s in the range. With medium-bodied richness, ripe tannins and a core of ripe, structured fruit, this fine Hermitage will continue to drink beautifully for another 10-15 years if stored well.
