Le Roc des Anges
Le Roc des Anges, located in Montner, was created in 2001 and is owned by Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet, who also own the Les Terres de Fagayra estate in Maury. The origin of the name is a carignan vine planted on a quartz vein. A hillside with white soil, amidst black schist: the locality is called "Roc Blanc". The angels were chosen to symbolize this quartz vein, and Le Roc Blanc became Le Roc des Anges.

The 25-hectare Le Roc des Anges estate vineyard is planted mainly with Mediterranean grape varieties grown at low yields (17 hl/ha on average). It is planted on shallow, draining schist soils that encourage deep rooting. Work is carried out with the terroir in mind: the entire vineyard is organically farmed. In 2011, it's the biodynamic soup.

The work in the cellar is a continuation of that in the vineyard. Simplicity is the rule. The wines are matured using a reasoned approach, and many Roc des Anges wines are aged in concrete vats, to allow them to breathe and preserve the fruit.

"A mosaic of old vine plots

Cuvée Relief is a blend of small plots of old vines, each bringing its own identity to the wine. Its depth and length are perfect, a red with plenty of chewiness that lets you discover the typicity of old vines. A perfect accompaniment to long-cooked lamb confit.

"The bewitching

A plot-based cuvee from Grenache Noir vines planted in 1991 on the northern slopes of Força Real. Produced using Biodynamic methods, it is a delicate wine with a subtle, charming nose and a fresh, taut palate. It is the very expression of its terroir, composed of ancient, friable schist.

"He'll put everyone on the same page!"

Made from the estate's vines (no older than 40 years), this wine expresses all their youth. Fresh, mineral and charming, with a complex nose of spices and vanilla, and a straightforward, charming palate. Its straightforwardness makes it a perfect match for duck, and a wonderful accompaniment to stewed or baked meat!

Le Roc des Anges - Las Trabasseres 2013

Las Trabasseres, which in Catalan means "the path along the mountain, on the hillside", comes from a parcel of Carignan planted in 1913. A supple, harmonious red offering lovely notes of fresh fruit and floral nuances, with great distinction. A well-concentrated, powerful and complex wine, in a highly successful vintage!

L'Oca is a dense, majestic white, complex on the palate, with pronounced mineral notes and a delicate touch. A gastronomic white that will be at its best with delicate fish, tartars and fish carpaccios... A fine southern white!

Le Roc des Anges - Carignan 1903 2013

16,5/20 RVF

"Carignan 1903 will easily shed a hint of rusticity in favor of its juicy sapiness when aged." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2015 - RVF) A loose cuvée with a full-bodied structure resting on aromas of ripe fruit and spice. A very fine wine for game birds!

A very intense, complex Côtes du Roussillon Villages, with spicy, vanilla nuances, voluminous on the palate but fine and deliciously mineral, offering well-presented tannins that augur well for long cellaring. 86-88/100 Robert Parker

"The 2013 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Segna de Cor is a blend of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah aged in concrete tanks. Inky/purple in color, it offers vibrant notes of black and blue fruits, licorice and spicy aromas, with medium-bodied richness and a fresh, clean finish. It should be accessible from release, and over the next 3-5 years." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)
