"Agile and full of verve (Suckling)"

"With notes of almond and orange peel, Furstentum delivers superb aromatic expression: we admire its scope, its smooth, caressing texture, and its savory finish." (Le Guide RVF 2025). This is a wine for aging that can be enjoyed now or left to mature for a few years in the cellar.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 95/100

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

With notes of almond and orange peel, Furstentum delivers superb aromatic expression: we admire its breadth, its smooth and caressing texture, and its savory finish.

About the estate:

Perfectionist Jean-Christophe Bott is one of Alsace's leading winemakers. He is committed to rigorous work in the cellar and in the vineyard, which is cultivated biodynamically. While it only covered 4 hectares when it was founded in 1953, the estate now has 15 hectares spread across seven communes. The wines here are full-bodied and smooth, with well-controlled richness and no heaviness whatsoever, particularly the Pinot Gris, which is definitely worth rediscovering. Each cuvée has both power and length on the palate, two qualities that lead to fullness. To top it all off, the estate offers slightly older vintages for sale and has recently started renting out cottages.

About wine:

The nose is precise and lively, with aromas of fresh lemon, beeswax, blanched almonds, and tulips. It is chalky and concentrated with a compact core of lemons in the center and a touch of stone. Agile and full of verve. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink now or keep.
