Coquard House
Maison Coquard is a family estate where the love of vines and wine has been cultivated for several generations. Descended from a long line of winegrowers, Christophe Coquard, with his many years' experience abroad (England, California, New Zealand and South Africa), and after broadening his skills with renowned Beaujolais wine merchants, created Maison Coquard in 2005 and decided to put all his experience at the service of new ideas in Beaujolais and breathe new life into the local appellations, while preserving the tradition and know-how handed down by previous generations.

This trading activity is based on the family home built in 1881, nestled in the heart of the magnificent Pierres Dorées vineyards at Theizé in Beaujolais. Maison Coquard offers all the Beaujolais appellations from some of the region's finest terroirs and carefully selected, attentive winemaking partners, in an original packaging and a resolutely innovative marketing approach based on the theme of "home". The vines are cultivated using sustainable methods that respect the environment and ecosystems. Vinification is carried out in the purest Beaujolais tradition, using whole grapes. The Maison Coquard style is above all to perpetuate the family tradition by offering quality wines that subtly combine tradition and modernity.

Maison Coquard - Juliénas 2011

3.4/5 (14 reviews)

Notes : Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins à Petits Prix (RVF) 15,5/20, Concours des Vins de Lyon Grand Or, Guide Hachette 1* (Very successful wine),
"With this wine, we find ourselves in the pulpy, sensual flesh of the bigarreau, where the full-bodied finish of the cru's granite base breathes. It's frank and very typical of Juliénas". (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins à Petits Prix 2013 - Guide Rouge RVF). A Juliénas that's great to drink young, with its black fruit and floral aromas, and that will improve with one or two years of cellaring. Enjoy with coq au vin!

Maison Coquard - Chiroubles 2007

The Chiroubles vineyard is the "highest" of the Beaujolais crus, at an average altitude of 400m, sitting on granitic sand soils. This Chiroubles 2007 is at once silky, fruity, tender and elegant. Once again, a fine search for fruit, as Maison Coquard knows how to deliver, with the added bonus of typical peony notes. A generous, gourmet wine to enjoy now!

Maison Coquard - Chénas 2007

Note : Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins à Petits Prix 15,5/20
The origin of the name Chénas may come from a place planted with oak trees (Cassanus in Gallic). According to other sources, Chénas may derive from the name of a Roman nobleman called Canus. It's a very real fact that the commune's territory has been planted with oak trees since prehistoric times, and what's that got to do with the intense, fresh aromas of red fruit and spices it brings! A structured, greedy, crisp wine...

Maison Coquard - Régnié 2007

The Régnié appellation extends over two communes: Régnié and Durette, on a sandy granite terroir. The youngest of the Beaujolais crus, promoted in 1988, is a supple, tender wine with a cherry-red color and violet highlights, opening with aromas of redcurrant, blackberry and raspberry. A seductive wine to enjoy on any occasion!

Maison Coquard - Fleurie 2007

Note : Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins à Petits Prix 16/20
Fleurie is generally regarded as the "Queen of the Beaujolais Crus": the Gamay grape finds incomparable expression on the granitic arena terroirs. This Fleurie 2007 displays floral and fruity aromas: lilac, violet, wisteria, blackcurrant, red fruit... A real bouquet to savor now!

Maison Coquard - Moulin à Vent 2007

Moulin-à-Vent is the oldest, noblest and King of the Beaujolais crus. Racy and generous, it offers floral and fruity scents of violet and cherry. It's also one of the only crus from the Coquard house to benefit from 10 months in foudre, which gives it structure and aromatic complexity. With a few years, it will develop complex aromas of iris, spices, ripe fruit, truffle...

Cru Morgon comes from a vineyard that extends over 1100 hectares in 6 climats, with a particular subsoil rich in friable granitic schist that gives it its aptitude for ageing. Morgon 2007 is a robust, generous and fruity wine, evoking cherry, kirsch and apricot. A cru with Burgundy allure...

Note: Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins à Petits Prix 16/20
The vineyards of this cru flourish on 320 hectares of steep, well-exposed slopes of Mont Brouilly. A terroir of unique homogeneity in Beaujolais, composed of blue granite and schist. The Gamay grape gives an elegant, fleshy, well-balanced wine, developing notes of black fruit and licorice with a subtle hint of minerality. A must-try!

Note: Guide Hachette 1* Etoile (Very successful wine)
Cru Brouilly boasts the largest vineyard in Beaujolais, with 1,200 hectares of Gamay vines producing a highly reputed nectar on granite and alluvial sand soils. The minerality of the blue and pink granite so characteristic of the appellation gives it roundness and tenderness on the palate, with subtle notes of red fruit on the nose. Superb!

Maison Coquard - Beaujolais Villages Clochemerle 2005

Note : Guide Hachette 2** Etoiles (Vin Remarquable)
Clochemerle, or Vaux en Beaujolais, is a famous village perched high up in the heart of the Beaujolais vineyards, which has given its name to a wine with typical aromas of ripe red fruit (raspberry, wild strawberry, redcurrant) mixed with blackcurrant and blueberry. Exclusive distributor of the Clochemerle brand, Christophe Coquard has opted for a screw-cap closure, making it easy to open, preserving the freshness of the fruit and the conviviality of a moment of pleasure - an excellent 2005 to savor now!

An evocative name for a naturally tender and elegant cru, opening with aromas of kirsch, spices and reseda, as well as a delicious blend of red fruit flavors. "Here's a wine that will make you fall in love with the most romantic cru on earth. Its sweet fruitiness silkily caresses the tongue." (Guide des Meilleurs Vins à Petits Prix 2009 - Gerbelle & Maurange)

" Old barrels for a young grape. It's original, it's greedy and can be shared around a pan of chestnuts ". (Guide Gerbelle & Maurange- Les Meilleurs Vins à Petits Prix). This cuvée comes exclusively from the villages and terroirs of the Pierres Dorées region of southern Beaujolais, to which it also owes its name. The clay-limestone soils mixed with granite and iron oxide give this Beaujolais its freshness, lightness and particularly fruity aromatic power. A gourmet pleasure to share with friends!
