Domaine Franck Chavy
Winegrowing family for 4 generations Domaine Franck Chavy is located in 2 well-known Beaujolais communes: Morgon-Villié and Régnié-Durette. Some of the vines on the estate have been planted since 1900 and represent a genuine living heritage of the passage of generations. Le Domaine Chavy has 9 hectares of vines in various appellations: Morgon (3.5 ha), Régnié (3 ha), Brouilly (2 ha), Beaujoulais Villages (0.5 ha). At Domaine Chavy we work as a family, from pruning the vines to vinification and marketing. The only exception to this rule is the harvest, which is done by hand and requires the use of seasonal workers.

On the Domaine ChavyGamay is planted at a high density of 10,000 vines per hectare. Each vine competes with the other, limiting the size of the bunches and their susceptibility to botrytis. This maximizes sunshine reception to optimize phenolic ripening, resulting in rich, round wines with good ageing potential and a fruity, easy-drinking character.

Particular care is taken in the vinification process, which involves long macerations (16 to 20 days) to extract substance from a de-stemmed harvest, allowing the terroir to express itself, and forgetting the so-called "fermentary" aromas (banana taste) of Beaujolais wines. The wines are frank, generous, precise and full of personality. Winemaker Franck Chavy 's aim here is to produce wines with great ageing potential.
Its 2017 Morgon micro-cuvée, aged in oak barrels, was voted "best Morgon of the year". World's Best Gamay in Lyon in January 2019, at the Concours International du Gamay....

"A must-see!"

A "Haute Couture" wine, with no added sulfite; this cuvée stands out for its freshness, its volume in the mouth and its fruitiness, with an aromatic palette that evolves as the wine opens up to oxygen. It's on the palate that the sulfite-free experience becomes "extra" ordinary, with the raw wine and grape juice aromas returning. This Régnié seduces with its incredible harmony of tannins, roundness and sweetness.

"A Morgon that's already "morgonne"!

The journey continues with this Morgon, full of finesse and intensity. A wine that "morgonne". The nose is seductive in its complexity: fresh and greedy, with notes of stone fruit (peaches, cherries...). Very well structured on the palate, the finesse of its tannins gives it great roundness. As the wine opens up to oxygen, the mouth becomes rounder and the aromatic palette gently evolves.

In 2019, Franck Chavy's Régnié sans sulfite is a full-bodied, round wine, harmonious between substance, freshness and black fruit, evolving to strawberry with aeration. Once again, a mastered technique, no unpleasant surprises on opening, this wine offers all its delicacy and richness on the palate. A must-try!

Domaine Franck Chavy - Morgon Cuvée fût de chêne 2017

"Franck Chavy's cuvée is representative of the best that Beaujolais has to offer, thanks to exceptional climatic conditions and terroir, but above all to the perseverance of this perfectionist at heart. Long maceration (20 days), ageing in three different volumes of oak barrels [...]: All the creativity of this passionate technician is expressed in this Morgon 2017. Here, the Gamay grape really comes into its own with subtle ageing. Result: Aromas of small black fruits preceding notes of spices (wild anise, pepper, mocha) that charmed the jury's tasters". (Interbeaujolais press release January 2019)

"Vineyard work, and in particular yield control, is one of Franck Chavy's leitmotivs. It will come as no surprise, therefore, to find that his wine is dense and deep, albeit with tannins that are still angular today, and which need to be refined." (Le Guide Hachette des vins 2019)
