James Suckling
"An undeniable success (Hachette)"
"Located on the border with the Juliénas appellation, the Côte de Besset offers a sandstone terroir to the estate's sixty-year-old vines. The grapes were macerated for eight days in whole bunches to produce a wine with beautiful aromatic intensity, notes of ripe red fruits, particularly strawberries, and a round, long finish. An undeniable success." (Guide Hachette 2025)

About the estate:
On the border between Burgundy and Beaujolais, this château takes its name from Sieur Bonnet, alderman of the town of Mâcon, who built a manor house there in 1630, where Lamartine later stayed. Acquired by the Perrachon family in 1973, the estate has 22 hectares of vineyards. Pierre-Yves Perrachon, who has been at the helm since 1988, was joined in 2013 by his daughter Charlotte, an oenologist. He has also partnered with a winegrower from the Mâconnais region to complement his estate with a wine merchant business, Bourgogne Sélect.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 11/18/2024
Fresh and crisp, this Saint-Amour makes an immediate impression with its disconcertingly frank aromas and sparkling fresh fruit. Its deliciousness and generosity are found in a clear, silky texture combined with fine, supple tannins, enhanced by a touch of liveliness, which slide smoothly into a light finish with medium persistence. Very easy to drink and ready to enjoy, this youthful Gamay will be a delight after decanting, paired with Lyon-style andouillettes and steamed potatoes, or a petit salé with Puy lentils. Rating = 3.8.
