Island of Beauty
According to the decree creating the appellation, to qualify for the IGP Ile de Beauté, wines must be made from grapes harvested in the Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud departments. Vin de Pays de l'Ile de Beauté is based on terroirs as varied as the diversity of Corsican soils. The climate is, of course, Mediterranean. The appellation's 3,150 hectares of vineyards produce around 200,000 hectolitres of wine a year. Ile de Beauté wines from the Antoine Arena, Robert Skalli and Yves Leccia estates stand out in this production.

The grape varieties authorized for the Ile de Beauté Protected Geographical Indication are numerous and representative of the vines grown on the island: Aléatico, Barbarossa, Carignan, Ganson, Gramon, Lledoner Pelut, Mourvèdre, Nielluccio, Portan, Tempranillo, Ugni, Vermentino, Biancu Gentile, Codivarta, Morrastel and many others common on the mainland.

Wines from the Isle of Beauty can be divided into two types. Varietal wines, sold under brand or estate names. Vins de Pays Primeurs, marketed from the 3rd Thursday in October, expressing their full taste qualities for immediate enjoyment.

"Juicy, with red berries and powdery tannins, it's a perfect combination!"

"Dominant Grenache and Niellucciu, dark red with purple highlights. Notes of blue plums and roses, fine, ripe and powdery. The mouth texture is tight, juicy and the tannins are just waiting to develop a patina over time. The whole is fresh and soon accessible, for five years or more". (Le Guide RVF 2024)

"A pure Biancu Gentile bursting with energy, both round and lemony!"

"A crisp wine that seems to smell and taste as much of lemon-scented rock salt crystals as freshly baked sourdough bread and grated green apples. It's wonderful. It has a salty, limpid, dancing length - like looking through a telescope, from the top of a cliff, at a vast expanse of motionless ocean glistening in the sunlight. It is as thirst-quenching as it is thirst-quenching." (Jancis Robinson 2023).

"Superb Vermentino from Corsica, complex and mineral".

"Minerality and a touch of citrus, Vermentinu in its purest expression. The fresh, lively aspect of the grape variety is tactile, there's no wood, the fine bitters are lengthening, this is a sure value from this serious, consistent quality estate. With grilled or fried fish, even raw or marinated, it's an ideal partner for the table" (Le Guide RVF 2025).

"A white that smells divinely of the South!"

"Bright, light gold. A fine, floral profile, a duo of Vermentinu and Biancu Gentile in a refined version, as always with no wood to bring out the saline character and enhance the minerality of the place. The structure is very invigorating, ripe and fresh, with the Biancu Gentile adding fleshiness. All in all, this is a fresh, full-bodied, fine white that's equally at home at the table or as an aperitif". (Le Guide RVF 2025)

"Elegant and full-bodied, Altru Biancu is a vibrant tribute to bianco gentile, unfurling its crisp, slightly vegetal flavors between spices and citrus fruit." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2020 - RVF) Altru Biancu (formerly Biancu Gentile) is a very expressive white wine, with white flower scents and hints of honey, and a remarkable freshness on the palate, which is greedy and mineral, with a taut finish. "A pure Biancu Gentile bursting with energy!
