Vinsobres
The Vinsobres appellation d'origine contrôlée covers around 1,000 hectares, exclusively in the commune of Vinsobres, on 7 km of slopes in the Drôme department. The Vinsobres terroir is based on soils of stony marl on the hillsides, sandy marl on the slopes, and stony Quaternary alluvium on the terraces, and benefits from a Mediterranean climate, protected from the Mistral and Alpine influences by the nearby relief.

Historically, the Vinsobres vineyard was rather modest in size (484 hectares in 1956). After the frost of 1956, the vine replaced the olive tree and grew considerably, reaching its current size of 1,000 hectares. Vinsobres was classified as a Côtes-du-Rhône in 1937, then Côtes-du-Rhône Vinsobres in 1957 (for all three colors), and in 1966 became one of the first Côtes-du-Rhône Villages. Vinsobres obtained local appellation status in 2005 for red wine only. The cru's potential production area remains limited to around 450 hectares. Vinsobres are blends of Grenache and Syrah. The quality of the Vinsobres offered by Maison Perrin et Fils is particularly noteworthy.

"The jewel of the appellation in a highly concentrated vintage".

"A Black Diamond often featured in the Guide, and usually in a good position. A cuvée born of a beautiful Grenache-Syrah complementarity, with an explosive bouquet of stewed blueberry, currant and garrigue essences. On the palate, it's dense, full-bodied and sappy, framed by powerful, tactile tannins, with a devilishly sapid finish that captures the freshness of the fruit. Already irresistible, it can also be waited a few years and served with truffle-flavored filet mignon, another black diamond of the sector". (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

"Grenache for the most part, guaranteed gourmet pleasure!

"Notes of cinnamon-spiced plums and Damask plum crumble, very juicy. Beautiful acidity emerges from this wine. The tannins are supple and ripe, offering a lovely freshness. [...]" (Decanter 2022). A Vinsobres with a lot of substance and richness, the black and red fruits are greedy! Ideal now or for laying down.

"Nose of cherries, raspberries, chocolate wafers against a background of mixed spices. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins. Juicy and supple, with bright red fruit on the palate and a refreshing finish. Enjoy now. (James Suckling 2023)

92-94/100 Robert Parker

"Les Hauts de Julien 2014 is easily the most impressive wine from the Perrin family. A blend of co-fermented Syrah and Grenache that comes from high-altitude plots, it presents sublime notes of black and blue fruits, violets, crushed pepper and wet pebbles. Medium- to full-bodied, elegant, straightforward and silky, this is a high-class Rhône Méridional wine with a foot in the Rhône Septentrional." (Wine Advocate 2015 - Robert Parker)

3*Coup de Coeur Hachette

"Full marks for La Vinsobraise, with three excellent wines in this selection, including the appellation's only Favorite . A blend of Grenache (60%) and Syrah aged in oak for a year, this Cuvée Excellius combines intense vanilla, chocolate and toasty notes with more "natural" nuances of ripe fruit and sweet spices. The palate is majestic, impressive in its volume, concentration and smoothness, supported by silky tannins, perfectly balanced oak and a touch of freshness that brings a welcome kick of nerves to the finish. Built to last. (Le Guide des Vins de France 2017) Delivery in wooden cases for orders of 3 bottles of this wine.

15/20 Gault & Millau

From high-altitude plots, Terres Extrêmes expresses freshness with a very Provencal character. The nose of tapenade and garrigue is reminiscent of ancient olive-growing terroirs. On the palate, the fruit is concentrated, with good acidity and smooth tannins. A warm wine, without heaviness. A real success!

3*Coup de Coeur Hachette

Note du Guide Hachette des Vins : 3***(Exceptional wine) + Coup de Coeur
"This Therapius cuvée, which gives pride of place to Syrah, has an elegant, deep, dense red color tending to black - the harbinger of an intense, complex bouquet combining stewed red and black fruits, vanilla, roasted coffee, sweet spices and violets. The palate is a model of its kind: full-bodied and concentrated, but not heavy, with volume and length, round, perfectly chiselled tannins, just the right amount of oak and intense fruitiness. A wine for laying down, to be enjoyed for at least three to five years". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2013)
