Buzet
In 1973, this Buzet appellation was recognized and, with the help of a few strong personalities, it was able to conquer a notoriety it had lacked for many years due to the shadow cast by the enormous vineyards of the neighboring department. With similar grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon for red wines), the qualities of the Buzet wines are also very similar to those of Bordeaux wines. The vast majority of Buzet red (85%), white and rosé production is controlled by the appellation's cooperative group of winegrowers, which includes no fewer than 27 communes.

Nearby, Europe's largest forest pleasantly tempers the oceanic climate. A climate and soils conducive to vine-growing, assets appreciated by Bacchus, have favored the planting and evolution of one of France's oldest vineyards. Today, the Buzet vineyard extends over 2,000 hectares in production, situated on 40 kilometers of hillsides.

The vintages offered by Gueyze Castle offer a perfect example of the nobility of the Buzet appellation.

Buzet, an old vineyard with character

Although the commune's main activity has been viticulture since the Middle Ages, Buzet wine has only recently really taken off. In fact, it was only after the creation of the Vignerons de Buzet in the 1950s that wine, and especially Buzet red has made a name for itself. Today, it is shipped all over the world. Visit Buzet wine was awarded the appellation d'origine contrôlée in 1973.

Located in GascogneLocated in the Lot-et-Garonne department, the vineyard covers an area of over 1900 hectares.

A terroir deeply rooted in respect for nature

The growing methods used to produce Buzet wines are an integral part of the terroir. Every effort is made at every stage of production to preserve biodiversity. The AOC specifications call on winegrowers to control yields in the interests of quality. Thus, vine density is limited to 4,000 vines per hectare, and each vine must have its own surface area of 250 square centimetres. Some Buzet wines, such as Château de Gueyze Buzet, have made the well-being of the vines and respect for biodiversity their top priorities. On this estate, the vines benefit from the broadcasting of music, and the Gueyze vineyard is proud of the great biodiversity that grows alongside its wines.

The oceanic climate produces full-bodied, complex wines

With slightly more sunshine than the national average and less rainfall, particularly in late spring, the vineyards are ideally located. The slopes on which it is planted provide the mineral elements, rich in limestone and clay, that give it its distinctive character. Although the Buzet vineyard Although Buzet produces white wine, this production remains relatively small compared to the red wine, which accounts for over 95% of bottling. The grape varieties of Buzet red wine are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and, to a lesser extent, Côt and Malbec, which give Buzet wines their distinctive consistency.

Cuvées de garde recognized for their quality

Although the Buzet wine is not a nectar to be kept for many years in a cellar, certain cuvées and vintages produce wines for ageing that are quite honourable and comparable to certain Bordeaux wines. Like the cuvée du vin de Buzet 2012 which is now reaching maturity. To reach its full potential, Buzet red wine should be drunk at between 16 and 17 degrees, with poultry or red meat.

Château Pierron - Buzet 2022

2*Coup de Coeur Hachette

"A persistent red that will delight game lovers!

"This Buzet has it all. We love its dense, intense color, the prelude to a no less sustained nose of red and black fruits ripened by the warmth of the vintage, supported by a beautiful spicy, toasty woodiness. The tone does not drop one iota on the palate, which is as broad as it is long, dense, fleshy and consistent, supported by tannins that are still in their youthful vigor but very promising. Patience..." (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

2*Coup de Coeur Hachette

"A blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc, this deep garnet-red wine with hints of violet delighted tasters. As intense as it is elegant, the nose displays a complex palette of red fruits, blackcurrants, prunes, figs, spices and dried fruits. On the palate, it is supported by a tannic structure that is both dense and rounded - an iron fist in a velvet glove - and offers a pleasant return of fruit on the finish. Well-built and persistent, this is a gourmet wine that will age gracefully". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2018)

2*Coup de Coeur Hachette

"Intense, brilliant, limpid garnet: the presentation of this 2013 is beyond reproach. The wine is just as seductive on the nose, with elegant red and black fruit aromas and soft accents of spice, vanilla and wood. Powerful on the attack, full-bodied and open to jammy blackberry, the wine unfurls with mellow tannins, then encounters a welcome freshness in a most delicate vanilla finish". Note du Guide Hachette des Vins : 2**(Vin remarquable) + Coup de Coeur
"In white as in red, this flagship cuvée from the Buzet winery once again proves its nobility. It adds a new Favorite to its long list of successes with this deep garnet-red 2011, featuring an expressive, intense nose of ripe fruit with a hint of wood. On the palate, the wine is round, fleshy, generous and velvety. Power and seduction come together in this Buzet, which can be drunk young or aged for a few years. (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014)

Award: Gold Medal CGA Paris 2012
Château de Padère is a rosé with a rather pale color for a Buzet. The nose is intense and particularly fine and subtle. The attack on the palate is quite nervous and fresh, full-bodied with white-fleshed fruit flavors. The finish is very smooth, making this rosé as much an aperitif wine as a meal wine...

A very fine Rosé from a confidential but highly qualitative appellation. The nose is fine and pleasantly expressive, with notes of red fruit. The attack on the palate is frank, with character and a tonicity brought this year by a fine acidity. The fruit notes then fill the mouth and give a very pleasant finish. One of the best rosés in the Southwest!
