Bettane & Desseauve

Rated wine (guide 2021) 96/100

3*Star rating (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

Magnificent, pure, fruity nose with hints of truffles, well-structured palate with tight, elegant tannins, length and intense freshness. It's all there. Superb!

About the domain :

Alain-Dominique Perrin has worked hard to make the magnificent Lagrézette estate one of the beacons of the Cahors revival. The progress made since the cellar renovation is clear to see: the wines have gained in elegance, and the fruit is better highlighted by the ageing process. We particularly appreciate the Château and Clos Marguerite cuvees, remarkable this year.

Wine rated (guide 2022) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the wine:

Blackcurrant and toasted... Lovely aromatic profile. Fleshy character and softened tannins... That's all it takes to make the decision to enjoy this Cahors now.

About the domain :

A star estate in the Cadurci vineyards, acquired in 1985 by businessman Alain-Dominique Perrin. It's renowned for the distinctive architecture of its 16th-century manor house, with its pepper-pot towers, sloping roofs and dovecote; for its vineyard heritage (82 ha), cultivated since the 16th century; and, above all, for its ambitious wines, regularly featured in these pages.

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)

About the wine:

This is the estate's wine, made from the vineyards surrounding the 15th-century château near the River Lot. Black fruits dominate, and tannins are very present. Dark, full-bodied and concentrated. The wine needs to age, and will be ready to drink from 2024.

About the wine:

Although the (obvious) oak and fruit are angular and rigid, this wine is still very young and will settle down in the coming years. The fruit, at once purple, red and blue, is very pure, beautifully sculpted by long, refined acidity and tannins. Beneath the more pronounced oak spice lies a touch of grape spice. Cumin and rain-soaked old tree bark, plus a hint of camphor. Minty freshness. Great length, flavor and restraint. One of the most elegant vintages of this wine I've ever tasted. Bravo!
