Swartland
Swartland means "Black Land" in Afrikaans ("Swart" for black and "Land" for land), referring to the hills where dark bushes grow in the region.

It is one of the oldest vineyards in South Africa. Eben Sadie settled there in 1997 and contributed to the reputation of the Swartland appellation and South Africa as a whole.

The climate is hot and dry, with soils composed of granite, schist, and sand.

The main white grape varieties grown here are Chenin Blanc and Colombard (on a smaller scale). Syrah is the dominant red grape variety. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Pinotage are also grown.

The Swartland Revolution festival is held there every year in November, with various events and exhibitions dedicated to wine.
