Domaine rated (guide 2021) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

Since 1937, domaine Paul Janin et fils has been producing moulin-à-vent and beaujolais-villages reds and whites. Eric Janin, the current owner, represents the fourth generation. He has inherited a succession of investments that have made the domaine such a success. In 1937, his grandfather bought the famous Tremblay vineyard, and in 1967, his father acquired what is today the estate's flagship cuvée: the century-old Greneriers vines. Éric Janin is also the father of young Perrine, who is studying oenology, and in turn continues to invest in the long-term future of the estate. In particular, this involves massal selections to gradually renew his stock of old vines. Difficult years are piling up for the cru, and Éric Janin has not escaped the violent hailstorms that have devastated the vineyards over the last three years. In order to preserve what has built the estate's reputation, the range is now completed by purchases from the negociants. Of a more classic standing, these wines are of good quality. As for the estate's stars, they suffer from low quantities but do not disappoint in terms of quality. In 2018, vignes-du-tremblay and greneriers are magnificent successes.

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the domain :

The location and age of the vines aren't everything. It takes the good farming sense and analytical finesse of Éric Janin to produce great Gamays, concentrated and fresh. Since his first harvest in 1983, Éric Janin has maintained a winemaking style that brings out the best in climats located mainly in the Moulin-à-Vent cru. Some vines, such as Les Greneriers, have survived both world wars. In 2017, Éric Janin set up a trading business with partner winemakers. Chénas, Brouilly and Beaujolais-Villages complete his range.
