"The 2018 Chénas Les Blémonts is bursting with mouthwatering aromas of rose petals, raspberries, cherries and spice. Medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with succulent acids and youthful, chewy tannins, this is a classic with character that will reward a year or two of bottle age." (Wine Advocate 2020) Eric Janin is successfully expanding his range, as demonstrated by this rich, gourmet Chénas.

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2020 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the wine:
More flesh on 2017. More accomplished style. Good wine.
About the domain :
Since 1937, domaine Paul Janin et fils has been producing moulin-à-vent and beaujolais-villages reds and whites. Eric Janin, the current owner, represents the fourth generation. He has inherited a succession of investments that have made the domaine such a success. In 1937, his grandfather bought the famous Tremblay vineyard, and in 1967, his father acquired what is today the estate's flagship cuvée: the century-old Greneriers vines. Éric Janin is also the father of young Perrine, who is studying oenology, and in turn continues to invest in the long-term future of the estate. In particular, this involves massal selections to gradually renew his stock of old vines. Difficult years are piling up for the cru, and Éric Janin has not escaped the violent hailstorms that have devastated the vineyards over the last three years. In order to preserve what has built the estate's reputation, the range is now completed by purchases from the negociants. Of a more classic standing, these wines are of good quality. As for the estate's stars, they suffer from low quantities but do not disappoint in terms of quality. In 2018, vignes-du-tremblay and greneriers are magnificent successes.

About the wine:
The bad weather of recent years (hail, frost) has led Eric Janin to expand his range, but with the same exacting standards. This is illustrated by this colorful, fragrant Chénas (violets, black cherries...), rich, greedy, velvety and well-balanced.

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
The location and age of the vines aren't everything. It takes the good farming sense and analytical finesse of Éric Janin to produce great Gamays, concentrated and fresh. Since his first harvest in 1983, Éric Janin has maintained a winemaking style that brings out the best in climates located mainly in the Moulin-à-Vent cru. Some vines, such as Les Greneriers, have survived both world wars. In 2017, Éric Janin set up a trading business with partner winemakers. Chénas, Brouilly and Beaujolais-Villages complete his range.
