Chiroubles
The Chiroubles appellation d'origine contrôlée is a communal appellation recognized since 1936. Its vineyards cover some 360 hectares. Chiroubles wine is produced entirely in the commune from which it takes its name.

Made from black Gamay grapes with white juice, as in all Beaujolais vineyards, Chiroubles is a red wine. The vineyard's soils are very homogeneous, consisting of coarse-grained granite, with a few granulite veins here and there. The Chiroubles hillsides benefit from favorable exposure to the east and southeast. The relief is very rugged and uneven. Chiroubles is the highest of the Beaujolais crus, at between 250m and 450m altitude. Chiroubles wines are vinified in whole bunches, which is specific to Beaujolais. After a vatting period of 8 to 12 days, depending on the vintage and the winemaker, and an initial alcoholic fermentation, the grapes are pressed. Taffy juice and press juice are then blended, followed by a 2nd malolactic fermentation to soften the wines by removing acidity.

Chiroubles is often referred to as the most "Beaujolais" of crus, thanks to its aromatic, fruity character. The Chiroubles appellation is particularly typical of the most expressive wines that Gamay can produce, thanks to houses such as Domaine Daniel Bouland, Domaine Emile Cheysson and Maison Coquard.

The Beaujolais cru that rises above the rest

Chiroubles wine is the fruit of manual labor on the severe slopes that host its vineyards. These are located in the north of the Rhône department, in a region that benefits from generous sunshine and the coolness provided by altitude. This location enables abundant production, resulting in a warm, well-balanced wine. Chiroubles is one of the ten Beaujolais crus. The grapes used to make this wine are harvested late. This is a specificity granted for the creation of this radiant wine.

The surprising flavours of Chiroubles

This wine boasts a sublime ruby color. Its nose is composed of delicate floral fragrances : iris, lily of the valley, peony and violet.

Chiroubles wine offers sumptuous red fruit flavors (including wild strawberry and raspberry). It is long on the palate and full-bodied. Slightly peppery sensations can be felt at the end of tasting.

Finesse and freshness characterize this subtle wine. Harmonious roundness and delicious tenderness. Highly expressive, it is a delight to drink.
Low in tannin, it's very approachable and easy to enjoy. It appeals to connoisseurs and red wine enthusiasts alike.

"A Chiroubles aged for a year in oak barrels after a long cuvaison. A determination to produce a structured wine, which translates into great tannic density, but without sacrificing suppleness and balance. The result is a long, round cuvée with notes of peony, plum and cherry". (Le Guide Hachette 2024) A top-class Chiroubles!

"A complete and harmonious wine".

"Fresh and greedy on the nose, the aromatic expression of this cuvée vinified in whole bunches evokes peony and morello cherry. This Beaujolais cru is the highest in the region (between 250 and 450 meters above sea level). Most of the vines are planted on hillsides, requiring a great deal of manual labor. The mineral strength and power of the rock produce airy, delicate wines with intense fruit and freshness.

"This important cuvée (30,000 bottles) awakens the nose with its atomic perfume of rose potpourri. Devilishly joyful and greedy, it seduces with its 'high drinkability'" (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2020 - RVF) A Gamay with fresh juice and floral aromas on sandy-granitic soils, a fine illustration of this Beaujolais Cru.

The cru is produced in the commune of Chiroubles. It benefits from favorable exposure to the east and southeast. The relief is very accentuated and uneven, giving this cuvée a beautiful expression of fruit with finesse and minerality. On the palate, we find the crispness and greediness of the Cru. Its harmony is built on the freshness of the fruit.

Maison Coquard - Chiroubles 2007

The Chiroubles vineyard is the "highest" of the Beaujolais crus, at an average altitude of 400m, sitting on granitic sand soils. This Chiroubles 2007 is at once silky, fruity, tender and elegant. Once again, a fine search for fruit, as Maison Coquard knows how to deliver, with the added bonus of typical peony notes. A generous, gourmet wine to enjoy now!
