"LA Cuvée phare du domaine, tasty and elegant for this first organic vintage".
This Pic Saint-Loup Vieilles Vignes is perfectly balanced, with superb aromas of chocolate and red fruits. Mentholated notes add freshness to the whole, and the tannins are perfectly integrated.

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated (guide 2024) 91/100 (Vintage 2020)
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the domain :
After Bernard Durand, who accompanied the Pic Saint-Loup's conversion from sheep-dominated polyculture to its recognition as a quality wine-growing zone, Régis Valentin, his nephew, has taken over the technical reins. Without fanfare, this is an estate to seek out for its powerful yet tasty Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, its Clos des Combes and its Grande Cuvée. The Cuvée Madame is even more ambitious, and the rosé is consistently delicious.

About the domain :
Régis Valentin, oenologist and cellar master, took over the estate created in 1960 by the Durand-Valentin families in 2001. He produces wines from 80 ha of vines (in organic conversion since 2019) occupying a beautiful terroir of hard limestone and red clay. A sure bet in the Languedoc.

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 27/10/2024
Typical and full-bodied, this cuvée offers the fullness of notes of sweet spices, slightly bitter cocoa and coffee, enhanced by succulent flavors of stewed cherries and blackcurrant. This rich cocktail is reflected in an opulent, full-bodied and alert palate, supported by present, well-coated and deep tannins. A subtle, slightly dusty ontuosity lends suavity to the texture, while a hint of graphite adds pleasant freshness. The warm lingering finish is convincing, with notes of licorice. Young and promising. Very reasonably priced. The powerful, sapid and dynamic style of this Pic makes it an ideal companion for a forest-style venison stew with fresh Lozère ceps and tagliatelle. Score - 4.2.
