"A safe bet"

Leading the 2018 vintage, Le Lirac La Dame Rousse 2018 is an equal blend of Grenache and Syrah, aged entirely in stainless steel vats. It is a more open and expressive wine than the more structured Reine des Bois; it has a lot of Provençal charm, with aromas and flavors of spicy red and black fruits, peppery garrigue, and incense. It is already difficult to resist this charming, medium-bodied 2018, which should be drunk in about 4 to 5 years." (Jeb Dunnuck) A cuvée combining power and freshness that will delight lovers of distinctive southern wines!

Rated estate (2024 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

The estate offers expressive wines from the finest vineyards in Vaucluse and Gard. Everything is done with the utmost respect for the terroirs, with the aim of producing wines that live up to their potential. Madeleine Delorme, accompanied by her daughter Ambre, continues to work with great care and determination in the spirit of excellence that characterizes the estate and this winegrowing family. A superb range of salty, full-bodied whites and deep, delicate reds, enlivened by a thirst-quenching tension and a perfectly balanced structure. The estate is moving towards increasingly racy and precise wines. The fourth star is fast approaching.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 91/100

About wine:

A supple, slender, and harmonious style for this classic Lirac with pleasant black fruit and a hint of pepper. It is ripe, with good acidity and well-controlled tannins. Decent length too—not particularly complex, but successful for this vintage. Organic, hand-harvested, fermented and aged in stainless steel.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the estate:

Created in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, the 58-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) is spread over 38 plots and eight communes. Following Christophe's untimely death in 2015, his wife Madeleine and their daughter Ambre took over the reins of the estate. Advocates of low yields, the Delormes produce vintages with disconcerting ease, whether in Tavel, their original stronghold, Lirac, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, or "simple" Côtes-du-Rhône. Unmissable.

A typical Lirac, perfectly fruity, not too powerful. A wine for friends, even as an aperitif.

Note and opinion by Mr. BALTHASAR T. Published on 05/18/2022

As a big fan of the "queen of the woods" from the same estate, I am a little disappointed by this wine. The aromas of red fruit and garrigue are rather discreet, the texture is silky, but the acidity is excessive on the finish. It's not bad, but there are much better wines available for less money from many other estates in Lirac, such as Chateau de Ségries, Chateau de Manissy, Domaine Maby, the little-known but brilliant Chateau Devoy-Martine, or Domaine Bouchassy.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 11/28/2021

A pure southern wine with sparkling flavors of ripe blackcurrants, raspberries, and cherries, which pleasantly dance on the palate with notes of spices and garrigue. Volume, texture and fine, supple, powdery tannins carry us towards a fresh, mouth-watering finish. Thanks to its subtle balance, you forget its 14.5% alcohol content. La Mordorée confirms the consistency of its beautiful, delicious Lirac, which has earned it the status of one of the best wines in this appellation. However, a victim of its own success, La Dame Rousse is starting to become expensive to buy. Suitable for aging, this well-opened 2018 proved to be the perfect partner for venison, cranberries, and small porcini mushrooms freshly picked in the Cévennes at 18°C.
