"Equal parts Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre make up this red wine, which is open to stewed red fruit, quetsche and sweet spices. Straightforward on the attack, the palate returns to berry fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry) on a finish where the tannins show their muscles. Harmony and potential. (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (guide 2023) 93/100
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
The domaine offers expressive wines from the finest crus of the Vaucluse and Gard regions. Everything is done with the utmost respect for the terroirs, with the determination to produce wines worthy of their potential. Madeleine Delorme, accompanied by her daughter Ambre, carry on with great care and determination in the spirit of excellence that is the hallmark of the domaine and this winegrowing family. A superb range of saline, fleshy whites and deep, delicate reds, driven by thirst-quenching tension and fine balance. The domaine's style is increasingly racy and precise. The fourth star is fast approaching.

About the domain :
Created in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, the 58-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) is spread over 38 parcels and eight communes. Following Christophe's untimely death in 2015, his wife Madeleine and their daughter Ambre took over the reins of the estate. A firm believer in small yields, the Delorme family is equally at home with tavel, lirac, châteauneuf-du-pape and "simple" côtes-du-rhône. Not to be missed.

About the wine:
Incredibly fresh, pure aromas of forest berries and herbs emerge from the glass of this rich but beautifully proportioned Lirac. Beautiful integration of tannins, fruit and alcohol on a full but silky and fresh palate. A long, velvety finish that leaves you wanting more.

About the wine:
A blend of 40% Syrah and 30% Mourvèdre and Grenache, the 2019 Lirac La Reine Des Bois reveals a deep purple hue and a masculine, mineral bouquet of blackcurrant, raspberry, ground pepper, hints of graphite and smoked meat. Syrah dominates the nose for now, but it shows more of the sensuality of Grenache on the palate; it's full-bodied, with a seamless texture, excellent tannins and a lovely finish. There's enough tannin and underlying structure to allow 2-3 years of bottle age, but it should hold up to 10-15 years. It's still in the running for Lirac of the vintage, and far surpasses great Châteauneuf du Pape.

2019 has generously spoiled this remarkable Lirac, once again graced by the DELORME family. Intense red berry and sweet spice aromas run through a slightly acidic framework supported by powerful, already silky tannins that are beginning to develop a patina. As it opens, the wine also reveals notes of undergrowth, truffle and coffee. The long finish, with hints of liquorice and vanilla, is full of freshness and vitality. The whole augurs well for the future after one or two more years of cellaring, during which the hardest part will be waiting. Score of 4.6. In the absence of woodcock, the "Queen" was celebrated on the arm of her "King", the gardianne de taureau, accompanied by Camargue rice, for a Sunday family meal.

Nice bottle opened to taste young. Already very pleasant, a fruit bomb typical of the Southern Rhône, this wine lives up to its promise. Still a little tannic, the next bottle will be opened in a year or so, but with 1 or 2 days' prior opening in the cellar. Serve at 16 degrees with a fine meat or sauce dish. Highly recommended!

The wine is good BUT we find it too alcoholic: 15.5° as much as a Muscat de Rivesaltes! A shame.
