"Cherry and strawberry jam!"

Together, Grenache Noir and Cinsault generally account for around 60% of this cuvée, while Grenache Blanc, Mourvèdre, and Syrah make up most of the rest. The 2022 Tavel La Forcadière is a medium-translucent ruby color in the glass, with a hint of copper. On the nose, scents of crushed stone add to notes of ripe cherry and strawberry, while the full-bodied palate is remarkably taut, supported by generous acidity. The wine finishes strongly, with great persistence on citrus notes and a slightly silky texture." (Wine Advocate 2023)

Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

In this historic region of Tavel, the Maby family produces wines of consistent quality that are always honest, pleasant, and full-bodied. Led by the dynamic Richard Maby, the estate continues to progress, with the wines gaining in precision each year. The vineyards are located in the communes of Tavel, the Lirac plateau, and the neighboring Côtes du Rhône. Reasonable prices and consistent quality make this estate a safe bet on the current market for all three colors.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

This estate, renowned for its consistent quality, particularly its Lirac wines in all three colors and its Tavel wines, was founded in 1950 by Armand Maby. In 2005, his grandson Richard took over the reins of the vineyard, 53 hectares located mainly on the rounded pebbles of the Vallongue plateau; the vines are cultivated "naturally" and have been in conversion to organic farming since 2019. Since 2011, the eminent Rhône oenologist Philippe Cambie has been advising the estate.

About wine:

Orange in color with ruby hues, this Tavel has a very pleasant texture and freshness. Notes of fresh cherries and ripe Gala apples are balanced by herbs, pink pepper, and a stony finish. Wonderful to enjoy now or during the fall, try pairing it with tomato-based stews.

Rated wine (2023 guide) Double Gold Medal

About wine:

Clear, light red color. Initially discreet fruity nose, revealing precise red fruit notes when aerated. On the palate, a lovely, very fleshy texture with plenty of freshness and aromas that have lost their timidity. A promising vintage.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on March 1, 2024

Unlike the lively and highly fragrant Prima Donna cuvée, La Forcadiere is characterized by a virile, voluminous, and rich palate dominated by vegetal notes, followed by abundantly spicy red berries enhanced by marked acidity. While remaining fresh, the slightly vinous tannic structure contributes to the persistence of the slightly chalky finish. Forget the aperitif and enjoy this Tavel with its strong personality with Italian-style oven-baked bruschetta. Rating = 3.6.
