Saint-Romain
The Saint-Romain Appellation in the Côte de Beaune

The Saint-Romain Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), created in 1947, focuses exclusively on the territory of the commune of Saint-Romain, within the prestigious Côte de Beaune in Côte d'Or. This appellation allows wines to mention their specific climate of origin, such as Pouillange, La Perrière, Sous le Château, among others. Notably, red wines from this appellation can also claim the Côte de Beaune appellation.

Terroir and Exposure of the Saint-Romain Vineyard

Located on gentle slopes that enjoy optimal sunshine, the Saint-Romain vineyard flourishes on a marly and limestone terroir enriched with clay veins that are ideal for growing Chardonnay. The vines enjoy varied exposure, from south/southeast to north/northeast, at altitudes ranging from 280 to 400 meters.

Characteristics and Aging Potential of Saint-Romain Wines

Saint-Romain red wines, characterized by a ruby color and notes of black cherry, evolve after a few years towards aromas of ripe fruit, spices, and smoke, supported by fine and elegant tannins. They are distinguished by their ability to be enjoyed in their youth, while offering an aging potential of about a decade. The white wines have a pale gold color with green highlights, revealing a pronounced minerality on the palate that softens with time to reveal a mellow texture, as in the cuvées of Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson.
