Jean-Luc Colombo
Jean-Luc Colombo is a demanding, energetic and creative winemaker, a key figure in the Rhône Valley. In 1984, Jean-Luc Colombo set up a viticultural and oenological consultancy, and in 1986, with his wife Anne, he acquired his first plots of land in Cornas. At the time, the estate covered 1.5 hectares in the Cornas appellation. Today, it covers 6 hectares, planted with Syrah grapes on decomposed granite, on terraces and steep slopes, sometimes over 35%!

Jean-Luc Colombo 's viticultural practices respect nature's cycles and avoid the use of chemicals. The old vines have very low yields (less than 20 hl/ha), with strict controls on the younger vines, from pruning to green harvesting. The success of their first cuvée in 1987 led the Colombo couple to set up the company "Vins Jean-Luc Colombo" in 1994. The estate's finest vintages now grace the tables of the world's greatest chefs, from Alain Ducasse to Paul Bocuse and Georges Blanc. A success amply deserved in view of the high quality of these nectars.

"The most beautiful representation of Cornas

"Powerful yet delicately charming, this wine presents seductive aromas of black plum, black currant, violet, white mushroom and fresh earth, which merge into a complex bouquet with an abundance of violets. Well-integrated tannins support a palate of pure blackberry, black cherry, dried herbs, baked earth and oak spices. The finish is long and refined. Cellar until 2035+ to reveal its full depth." (Wine Enthusiast 2024). A magnificent entry into the world of wine.

"At the origins of the estate, the soul of the Colombo family".

"I was impressed by the quality of the 2019 Cornas les Ruchets, which stands out for its concentration, richness and velvety texture. Full-bodied, it offers layers of blackberry fruit and is tinged with notes of dark chocolate, black olives and licorice, while offering a succulent, mouthwatering finish." (Wine Advocate 2022). "Quintessence by Jean-Luc Colombo

"Notes of scorched earth, salt and iron mingle with punchy blackberries and plums in this opulent but very precise Syrah. The producer's flagship in Cornas, this bottling is made only in exceptional vintages from the free-run juice of low-yielding, 70-year-old vines. Brilliant and rich, yet light and airy, this wine is delicious in its youth, but still has decades of evolution ahead of it. Drink it until 2040. (Wine Enthusiast 2021)

"Anne Colombo's secret garden

"Juicy aromas of ripe red fruits and plums rest delicately on green olives, provoking the taster's appetite. On the palate, red and black fruits are delicately framed by Indian spices, while the olive brine never ceases to seduce with its formidable flavor. Mouth-watering acidity and silky tannins complete its charm, making this wine irresistible." (Wine Enthusiast 2023). Simply superb!

"The Colombo soul

"The 2020 Cornas Les Ruchets shows less oak than previous vintages, with a nose of sappy red fruits. It's medium- to full-bodied, silky - not chunky or muscular - with a long, refined finish." (Wine Advocate 2022). Impressive!
