\r\n \r\nThe Coteaux du Languedoc appellation covers 3 départements: Aude, Hérault and Gard, with 22,000 hectares of planted vines. The geographical production area covers 168 communes stretching along the Mediterranean coast, from Narbonne in the west to the edge of the Camargue in the east, and resting on the foothills of the Montagne Noire and the Cévennes. The originality of this appellation lies in the diversity of its terroirs. \r\n \r\n Côteaux du Languedoc wines can be red, rosé or white. Because of the appellation's diversity, the authorized grape varieties make up a mosaic: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre (50% minimum) alongside Cinsault and Carignan for red and rosé wines, Grenache, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Piquepoul, Roussanne, Marsanne and Rolle (70% minimum) alongside Carignan, Terret, Ugni, Maccabeu and Viognier for white Côteaux du Languedoc wines. The Coteaux du Languedoc appellation is a regional appellation which, since the decree of April 30, 2007, has been extended to all the AOCs of Languedoc and Roussillon under the single name of Languedoc. The diversity of Languedoc terroirs and the typicality of its wines have led to the creation of a hierarchy of Coteaux du Languedoc wines. Within the Coteaux du Languedoc appellation, we can distinguish the sub-regional appellations of Saint-Chinian, Faugères and Clairette du Languedoc, recognized as AOCs with their own specific decree. The addition of the communes of origin completes this hierarchy: Cabrières, La Méjanelle, Montpeyroux, Picpoul de Pinet, Quatourze, St-Christol, St-Drézéry, St Georges d'Orques, St Saturnin and Vérargues.
