Côtes du Roussillon
The Côtes du Roussillon vineyards stretch between the Corbières massif and the Pyrenees, covering more than 5,600 hectares in 118 communes of the Pyrénées-Orientales region. Of this appellation, 32 communes are eligible for the Côtes du Roussillon Villages appellation, which produces red wines only. Within this latter appellation, four lieux-dits are particularly distinguished and benefit from a specific appellation: Côtes du Roussillon Villages "Caramany", Côtes du Roussillon Villages "Lesquerde", Côtes du Roussillon Villages "Tautavel" and Côte du Roussillon Villages "Latour de France", the latter covering the five communes of Latour de France, Cassagnes, Montner, Estagel and Planèzes.

The Côtes du Roussillon and Côtes du Roussillon Villages vineyards occupy geologically diverse soils and subsoils (limestone, clay-limestone, schist, gneiss, granite, alluvial terraces, etc.) in five main areas: the Agly valley (to the north), the Têt valley (in the center), the Tech valley (to the south) and the Salanque plain, bordering the Mediterranean (to the east).

Production is around 175,000 hectolitres a year, of which 30% are reds, 65% rosés and 4% whites, made from traditional Roussillon grape varieties (Grenache noir and blanc, Carignan, Lladoner Pelut, Cinsault, Macabeu, Malvoisie du Roussillon) and more recently introduced aromatic varieties (Syrah, Mourvèdre, Roussanne, Marsanne, Vermentino). Côtes du Roussillon red wines are fleshy, fruity and spicy. Rosés feature fresh aromas of red berries and floral notes. White wines are fine and delicate, with notes of citrus, white-fleshed fruit and floral scents. To get the most out of these blends, let's take a closer look at the wines offered by Domaine Sarda-Malet. In the Côtes du Roussillon Villages appellation, excellent examples of the quality of the terroirs can be found at Domaine du Clos des Fées, Mas Karolina, Mas Amiel, Domaine Gardiès and Maison M. Chapoutier.

"What flavors with this colorful vintage!"

One-third each of Carignan, Syrah and Grenache are used in this cuvée, which smells of leather, pepper and red fruits in brandy. Full-bodied, generous and round on the palate, infused with ripe fruit and licorice, with fine tannins on the long finish". (Le Guide Hachette 2023)

"A very nice white (Hachette)".

"A "solidarity" cuvée made from a blend (macabeu, grenache blanc, viognier) chosen by a jury of 80 women. In the glass, a very pretty floral, fruity and mineral white, offering liveliness, volume, great length and very assured balance. Serve with ceviche or grilled octopus". (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

"Haute-couture

The estate's flagship cuvée, it seduces with its velvety finish, hints of oak, and notes of blueberries and black cherries. A fine success to be enjoyed, for example, with a fine duck breast...

"An icon of Roussillon

Already well known, La Petite Sibérie has become a Roussillon icon. Produced from a small parcel of old vines, this Grenache-dominant wine bewitches from the first nose with its notes of vanilla, blackberry or blackcurrant compote and blueberry tart. The palate, with its fine, delicate tannins, is enveloped in a veil of freshness and pleasant character. A wine that can be kept for more than 15 years, and that will leave you with lasting memories.

"The Côtes du Roussillon Villages Latour de France Visitare Interiore Terrae 2015 [...] offers a beautifully complex nose of blackcurrant, cassis, damp earth (granite), chocolate and roasted meat. Rich, full-bodied, unctuous and sexy as hell, it offers plenty of sweet fruit, no harshness and a great finish. This is a gorgeous wine to drink over the next 7-8 years." (Wine Advocate 2017) Enjoy with eyes closed!

"Another fine vintage for this cuvée, which shines with purity and elegance".

"[...] the Côtes du Roussillon Villages Latour de France Occultum Lapidem 2020 is peppery and spicy, with lots of blueberry and blackcurrant fruit. Medium to full-bodied, creamy and supple to the touch, with a long finish, could this wine be better than the impressive 2019?" (Wine Advocate 2023)

"Memories, memories..."

"A long 18-month ageing period in demi-muids, followed by two years' rest in the bottle for this intense Caramany, which opens unreservedly with red fruit (cherry, strawberry) enhanced by a hint of leather. The attack is fresh and fine, the development full, round and delicate, around red fruits and melted tannins. Excellent balance and cellaring potential". (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

"The taste of wind on the brush and stones of a mountain (Jancis Robinson)"

"On soils of gneiss and granitic arena, the white grape varieties (white and grey grenache, macabeu, white carignan) are picked "here and there", scattered among very old red vines, then vinified in foudres and demi-muids, before a 10-month ageing period on lees. The result is a wine that is mineral, lively and taut, with discreet oaky support and a pleasant mellowness on the mid-palate, before a fresh finish of lemon and lychee". (Guide Hachette 2025)
